STEVE GILBERT
Anyone upgraded to thru bolt etc got the old ones lying about? Need to have 200mm+ steerer and lockout, needed for work bike that sometimes gets used on trails, current forks have 100mm travel and rusty stauntions, keep missing stuff on ebay. A long shot I know. Thanks in advance Steve See My Caterham Fireblade Here.
myothercarsa2cv
I have some Manitou Sherman Flicks with Ti springs (air forks) but I think these might be a bit hefty with 150mm travel... But it does lock down to 120mm. Plenty of steerer tube, could probably do with a service as they've not been on a bike in a couple of years. Post mount only, no v's. To be perfectly honest, unless you're doing North Shore trails, they're pretty awful. For big hits, they're not bad. Garibaldi
Steve I have a pair of the very first SIDs (98 ish) Blue 80mm travel - Air reservoir in both legs... Mag lowers upgraded to allow fitment of IS discs... still have V-brake only early Mag lowers... King steerer bearing race Valves converted to later Schrader fitment Bit of a relic but very light and in perfect working order..... Not sure on steerer length though.... STEVE GILBERT
Thanks so much guys. Sadly I am looking for something fairly recent (post 06 really) as the Rockhopper is of that era. I now a lot of people are switching over to thru axle due to the QR coming undone issue on disc braked bikes and that there are a lot of MTB fans on here. I know I hoard stuff Thanks again Steve See My Caterham Fireblade Here.
myothercarsa2cv
The thru-axles really shouldn't make any difference to the wheel staying in the forks. Having had discs and nothing else for 7 years now, it's never happened to me once... Even with Hope 6 pots. If you're that worried you can buy an allen keyed up version, but the biggest difference is the stiffness - the legs don't 'walk' like they do on a QR axle. How about something like these? I really like Marzocchis, they won't break!
