Peter Carmichael
Why would you be pootling around in 6th if you intention was to overtakequestion mark Nope. My argument just concerns 2 gears. say... 4th to 2nd or 5th to 3rd. *I* can't do it gracefully in *my* Seven equipped with a Quaife sequential. The sequence is this.... #1. realise I want to accelerate a lot #2. dip clutch, blip throttle, stab gear lever, lift clutch... still not accelerating yet and because of the upcoming further downshift, accelerating at this stage would be the wrong thing to do #3. dip clutch, blip throttle, stab gear lever, lift clutch, apply throttle.... now accelerating Same for leaving a 30mph zone, 6th gearconfused smiley. You've really missed the point here, Mike. I select 6th for the combined reasons of: ... showing off that I can pootle in 6th at anything above 23 mph ... it is the only quiet gear and I don't want to go deaf ... what I'm about to do is highly anti-social and I don't want to draw attention to myself Even if it was 4th, the problem is the same. The double downchange sequence before accelerating is clunky and something that... ... you never face on track with a sequential gearbox ... you can accomplish much better with a smooth gearchange on an H-pattern gearbox If this was someone describing driving an H-pattern box, insisting on using every intermediate gear before accelerating for an overtake there would be no debate. metal mickey
Ok Peter, fair comment. Mines a bec and easy to downshift two cogs at a time. Is that not possible with the car sequencial 🤔(I have no road driving experience of the quaife box)
