Casbar
Been working on my mates 911 SC we need to drop the engine and transmission so he can have the gearbox refurb. So all the bits are off the engine, pipes disconnected et and its ready to drop. But, anyone know for sure how many bolts hold it in, before I start to undo stuff. Haynes not much help. It looks like there are 2 bolts at the rear of the engine and then two that hold the transmission on, which makes 4. Anyone know if there are more than two in the engine comp
Simon Ed
Found this on Pelican parts Porsche forum, looks to be just what you might need: here Simon Edited by - Simon E on 7 Apr 2008 16:25:
Casbar
Yep been following that article, but it only talks about dropping the engine and leaving the transmission in the car. And it only mentions undoing the engine mounting bolts, not how many there are. We are trying to remove the engine and transmission together, as per the Haynes manual
ric355
ISTR the engine and transmission are dropped during this programme; May not be detailed enough but might offer a hint ! ?

elie boone
Why do you need to drop the engine, on an 996 RS cup you can take the 6 speed box out without touching the engine, not sure about a SC
Julian Thompson
No you can't get the box off on an aircooled car IIRC without having the whole sheebang on the floor :-)
Casbar
If he had a 996, a garage would be doing the job, this car is a bit more of a classic
h_____
I think there is a little bit of a difference between a 911SC and 996cup! Pelican parts in the US has a great website for this sort of thing as is Rennlist if you know of them. I found that the folks in the US where much more into taking their 911s apart than the folks in the UK.
h_____
Been a while since I looked at those forums....try this here http://forums.pelicanparts.com/showthread.php?t=290192&highlight=911+engine+removal and this here http://www.pelicanparts.com/techarticles/911_engine_drop/911_engine_drop-1.htm Also the reference to Waynes book is a good one, a really useful book to have.
