johnpbransfield
Thanks for that Brucey,i shall look into the items mentioned on your thread. Everything still looks pristine on the car and all the connections seem fine,so i think it will come down to the battery which has only done 8000k in 16 months, which is not much of a life !!!! Tony C
Have you checked the elecrolyte level - should just cover the plates - if not, top-up with distilled water. My Banner has some plastic leg things and the electrolyte should just contact the bottom of the leg in each cell. johnpbransfield
Tony, thanks for that. Fluid levels seem ok,about 1/4 inch above the plates but below the legs!!
Peter G
Trust you've checked that the battery terminals are tight, and that there's no corrosion etc round the earth straps? Starter motor connections tight etc?? Toe down, nose up the windscreen!
ftoogood
Same thing happened to me. and I have an Accumate too. Drove the car to the petrol station to fuel-up and then car wouldn't start. Called out a recovery people who said it was the starter motor. Hit the starter motor with a hammer and it started. Had some work done on the car at Caterham, new exhaust and asked them to check out the starter motor. They couldn't find anything wrong. Again went to the petrol station to fuel-up and the car wouldn't start. Called out a recovery people who said it was the starter motor. Hi the start motor with a hammer and this time it wouldn't start. You can see a pattern starting. Bought a new starter motor and the got the car working. Again went to the petrol station to fuel-up and the car wouldn't start. Ground-hog day! This time managed to get the car started after a push. Took off the old battery, which says it has a hull charge on the volt meter and replaced it with a brand new one. Everything is working fine with many miles covered since. Brucey
John, I've just fitted my new Banner battery (£61 😳) and the car started instantly . I also noted that the Banner comes with a 4 year guarantee How old was your battery ?(my old one was 6 years old and is still good enough to power a 12v lead light) Bruce. johnpbransfield
Bruce, Got one today in Bradford £50.37 but only three year warranty. My previous was only 16 months old with 8000 miles on CC did not want to know as it was over 12 months old,yet agents give a warranty of 3 to 4 years. Seems like the customer is always wrong in some instances. Put mine on this evening although only half charged according to the hydrometer it started first time.So back on the road again
