Bigape
Coming to the end of my CR 500s and looking for recommendations for a replacement, looks like the Avon ZZs . Has anyone bought any recently and were from or any other makes you have tried. Thanks in advance.
David Brown
ZZS are great, got from Ronnie at WheelsAround at Knockhill at a good price. Fronts are slightly bigger and may need very slight mod on front wing. One of mine was fine, the other needed the front mounting hole elongated slightly to clear. Plenty of discussion in the archives.
Croc
For all round road driving the Avon ZZS are excellent - I think they were an upgrade from the CR500. Quite good in the wet and snow. The Avon ZZR are much grippier on a track in the dry but the moment a hint of water appears on the road surface then you need to worry as they lose grip very quickly and have no hope in standing water. I found there was a Yokohama tyre I could fit to the CSR wheels but discarded that option very quickly as it changed the gearing too much and was 40% heavier than the Avons. ScottR400D
#3 I've run nothing but ZZRs for three years or so now. They're surprisingly good in the wet IMO, needing no more than moderate caution.Did a soaking wet TD at Snetterton back in September and only had the ZZRs. We eventually gave up because the car was basically flooding but it was quite drivable even so. I'm sure the ZZS shifts water better but unless you intend to be out in the wet all the time the ZZRs aren't at all bad.
