  1. Bricks sound a little unkind ! I use a couple of 8 X 2 timber with a ramp and one end and and small lip (anti roll off) at the other. Lifts the car (2 inch) enough to get most jacks under.
  2. Found this on another forum, (Mind you it was refering to stonking great diesel engines !) Wondered if it might be pertinate to K series with immobilisers ? " Upon return to the UK I contacted an auto electrician who said that he had come across this fault before. He said that the immobiliser was fitted in such a way as to deny the starter motor solenoid sufficient voltage to operate (signal from ignition switch followed a tortuous route through immobiliser, causing a voltage drop, then to solenoid). He said this would be worse in hot weather. He then wired in a relay (signal wire after the immobilser to pull in feed wire from battery) to give full battery voltage to the starter solenoid. This seemed a bit simple to me but the proof is in the eating, and I have had no problems since, and this includes a very hot 3 weeks (early June 2002) in France. "

    1.4SS

A lot of 1400SS were built for road / racing, might be worth checking if you have LSDiff. Jack rear up, turn rear wheel and the other wheel will turn in the same dirrection. (Took me a year to find out I had one !) PS do a search on "1400" in the archives for a LOTTA information. Edited by - tony isherwood on 10 May 2002 11:38:55
  12. And go off when the headlights are on full beam. (Or is just my car ?)
  13. Re our discussion about wheel clamps etc, I have a clamp (heavy and ugly, a bit like Nige really !) that I used with the caravan, if you are still interested. Can wait until the next meeting @ Dailpost.
  14. I would suggest that you hitch up, with some weight taken by the tow hitch , some by the jockey wheel when loading. When loaded, unhitch, roll the car forward enough (say a 9 inches to a foot)check the nose weight of the hitch (Bathroom scales / length of wood trailer set level or to the height of the towball) to make sure that it is set to the recommended nose weight for the car tow bracket. This varies from car to car / bracket to bracket. This can vary from 50 KG to 150 KG depending upon the vehicle. Failure not do this can cause all sorts of legal problems if Mr Plodd investigates, Your own safety and others if an "OH Sh*t" occurance takes place when you are driving. ! Make sure that the load on the trailer is secure, as any movement will affect negate all the work that you have done above. (and the car may fall off the trailer, which is not a good thing)
