    Copper washer

Thanks for the responses, I, am fairly certain there is a copper washer so I guess I'll have to bite the bullit and get under the car. Getting old makes my memory play tricks on me as I have had the plug out every year in the 7 years I've owned the car. I particularly liked the answer from Virden, I also have trouble from the pinion end so that will be another job on the list. It will be the second replacement in about 15k miles. I wonder if the original Ital van was just as bad? Maybe that was a minor fault compared to all of the others.

    Copper washer

Does anyone happen to know the size of the copper washer required for the Ital diff filler plug. I need to replace mine and am trying to avoid removing the plug to find out. Yes lazy I know but it is cold in the garage.
  3. I purchased one recently and I think it was around £36. Oxted were very helpful and delivery was very prompt. After sales advice on fitting was also very good. Surprisingly easy to fit. Highly recommended.
  4. How accessible is the oil pressure relief valve in order to check the spring etc. Can it be done without removing the engine and then stripping it down? The Haynes manual is pretty vague on the subject.

    Brown liquid

Roger & Andrew Your posts are very interesting as the problem only arose after I had the carbs re-jetted to make the car more smooth for road use, as opposed to full out running which I believe the engine was originally intended for when supplied by Caterham. Before re-jetting it did not like running at low revs in traffic despite adjustment. After re-jetting by a very well respected engineer and checked on a rolling road, it became much more user friendly without any loss of power for everyday use. 110bhp at the rear wheels. The utube clip certainly seems to show the problem. Perhaps if I gave the K & N filters a good clean it may at least reduce the residue. I have been told that the VX1600 was originally developed for the Graduate race series but I don't know if that is true or not. Tezza

No, the crankcasebreather is quite separate. Tezza

    Brown liquid

This may have been asked in the past but here we go again. Can anybody give an explanation as to why I get a brown liquid (not a lot) coming back out through the air filters from my VX1600 Weber carburetters. It streaks down the side of the car when I have been running at a constant speed down the motorway or similar. It is really only a small amount but still very annoying.
  8. Having tried this myself some time ago, I encountered difficulty in releasing the pinion retaining nut which is torqued pretty high. The problem is that the half shafts spring and consequently you cannot release the nut. Mind you I was trying to do it using axle stands rather than a pit which would have given me more leverage. Anyway to cut a long story short, I ended up taking the axle to the 7 Workshop for some new wheel bearings and shims and the seal was also replaced. Chris reckoned that the secret was to bolt a bar to the pinion flange which hold the whole thing ridged and you can then get the necessary leverage. I guess I will be trying this out fairly soon as the seal has started weeping again. Or, I may just put a new piece of clean cardboard on the garage floor 😬 I think you have to pretty careful to to tighten up the nut back to where it was if the CWP is to run correctly within tolerances.
  9. Thanks, must learn how to do that linky thing

  11. Sorry now sold. So what shall I buy next?
  12. Just as it is impossible to travel faster than the speed of light, so equally, one cannot have too many Stratocasters. 😬
  13. I have for sale a mint condition Eric Clapton Fender Stratocaster artist series guitar complete with vintage case. It was bought on a whim but hardly been out of the case. If you look at the Fender website, you can get the specs. Cost new at discounted prices around £1500. MY PRICE £850 ONO.

    8V radiator

Hi Does anyone out there know the tread and size of the radiator bleed screw. Hopefully, Redline can come up with a replacement as mine has decided to disintegrate (yes, I know I probably overtightened it) otherwise, I will have to manufacture something from a suitable bolt. Thanks
