  1. Ahh Steve finally you have seen the light . Just ease out that old Crossflow and drop the Zetec in. Will still blow away even your old SLR (in a straight line 😬) Come join us in the iron block club
  2. If going to Bedford watch out for the drive by noise meters. While my car only gave 96 db static it was apparently well over the drive by and black flagged on the day. OK so load's of induction noise from the webbers I was asked to do a drive by loop while they checked the noise. With being say a little easier on the gas I was allowed back out to play? Let’s just leave it at when there you should be able to see the meters quite easily and adjust your driving if required 😬
  3. Hi Arnie might be interested. Will you be at the show on sunday and could bring it along ?
  4. Yep sounds just like the Spax I have fitted to me 90 didion. First click position is a bit vague so just turn them both the same amount. If oneside now feels softer than the other have you turned them both the same way? Clockwise to stiffen and anti to make softer! They will just keep turning clockwise after you are past the last adjustment. Number of clicks will depend on the rear springs you have. 1 seems a bit low would try 2-4. If the adjustment has not moved in years I have heard of the valves sticking? Could be just the excuse to replace them! Edited by - steve w on 18 Mar 2003 22:47:13
  5. Hi Steve Ummm sprints next year. How are the plans going? What events are you thinking of doing. Fancy a bit of competition from a slow old Zetec 😬 If I have the time I still fancy doing a couple of events! Drop me a line
  6. Graham what was in your kit. I've asked caterham and have been told that my 90 DiDion can't be upgraded to widetrack without modifications ? Is this what you have done ! If so just what was invovled. Thanks
  7. Mmmm sounds like I was just being a bit of a whimp and the plug is very tight 😬 Guess I'll go get a drain plug socket and go from there. Thanks
  8. OK did not have time at the weekend so thought I would try topping up the Diff tonight. So how the hell do you remove the filler plug I assume it’s the one just to the right of center (from the rear of the car). It looks like a star type bit (what size) but there is no room to fit a socket. Tried with a cut down 10mm Allen key but the plug is very tight and I was scared of rounding off the socket! Stupid question time can I just pour some EP90 down the breather pipe? If I over filled would it just blow out the excess? I’m going to extend the pipe and fit a small catch tank in the corner of the boot anyway.
  9. Good idea. I'm going to fit a catch tank of some sort. Don't like the idea of oil dripping close to the rear brakes ! Edited by - steve w on 6 Oct 2002 23:25:22
  10. Thanks guy's EP90 it is then. Quick refill ready to chase some bike's this afternoon ! Edited by - steve w on 6 Oct 2002 15:02:18
  11. Back to the top before I fill it with EP90 this afternoon .
  12. Can anyone confirm that I need EP90 to refill my AP (viscous) type diff !
  13. You could use a program like Boot magic part of partition magic. This would give you a menu on boot up and you could select dos or XP. You would need to repartition the disk to make room for the small dos partition.
  14. I believe it's the AP viscous type so what do I refill it with EP90? Is there a nack to filling it or do you just put as much in as possible until it runs out ?
  15. Has any else running at Rockingham lost oil out of the dif breather or do I have a different problem !
  16. Thanks Keith I think you would have been proud of me at Rockingham. Loads of sideways action 😬. The only thing that passed me all day was a Radical . He must have been taking it easy as I hunted him down and repassed . Not sure about the beer in the Diff (Guinness maybe).
  17. After a totally manic trackday at Rockingham I've found a leak. I appear to have lost some oil out of the Diff breather pipe. Would this be due to running on the banking at Rockingham? And for my next stupid question, how and with what do you top them up (AP LSD type )
  18. I've used the TechCraft basalt before and the big bag just fills the monster can I have. Still not that quiet at just under 100db at 4.5K rmp. Also does not seem to last that long. I think I'll tap down what's left in there and top it up with the roll stuff and see how it goes. Edited by - steve w on 18 Sep 2002 11:53:40
  19. Sounds like it's packed now with the basalt based wool. I think I'll just top it up with the roll type and repack it from scratch over the winter. Edited by - steve w on 17 Sep 2002 23:12:48
  20. My Techcraft exhaust has started to blow at the end and get a little loud This is normally packed with handfuls of a glass fibre looking material (sorry for the vague description) . I’ve found a company just around the corner who build bike exhausts. From them I have a large sheet of packaging they use. This seems also to be fibre based but much denser? I was thinking of just rolling the sheet into a tube and with the end cap removed sliding it down into the can (I’ll just tap down the packing that’s left in there). Does anyone have experience of the different types of exhaust packing out there? Edited by - steve w on 17 Sep 2002 13:33:44

    Damper clicks

Well after spending some more time under the car I still do not have a clear answer. If you keep turning the damper adjuster it just keeps turning. Now if you back off the adjuster on both sides each takes 4 complete turns. One just clicks every ¼ turn and the other every 1/8th turn. If you ignore the number of clicks and just count the amount of turn (both set at 2 turns) then car feels balanced. I think I’ll just forget about it and drive the car. See how it feels at Cadwell on Friday !
  22. Sorry don't know about there injection kit's but don't discount there carb versions. I have the 190 kit (but with the large valve head). On twin 45's and 3D ignition it drives very smooth, and you get a lovely roar from the Carbs 😬 😬 A great spread of power (enough to out drag SLR's) and if you reuse the carbs from the Crosflow could be much cheaper

    Damper clicks

Well both dampers were replaced at the same time about 18 months ago ? If they doubled the number of clicks is the range still the same just more adjustment ? Only had a quick run in the car at the weekend but it does not feel like there is much more damping on one side ? Now I’m very confused *confused*

    Damper clicks

I have an 89/90 didion fitted with the old style spax damper with adjustable platforms. On backing off the front dampers one click today I noticed a strange thing. One damper adjustment seems to click every ¼ turn and the other every 1/8 turn Anyone else ever seen this? The first click or setting is very hard to determine but they both seem to have the first positive setting at around 1 ¾ turns. So I gave one side one turn (4 clicks) and the other 1 turn (8 clicks). Does this seem right?

    Ride height

Thanks for the replies. Just wanted to know I was in the ballpark (with the front wishbones level). Will just try a couple of turns and see how it feels. This is all because of an 'introduction to sprinting' day a curborough. Getting faster and faster during the day, finding the limits of the car (and well over them). Might just have to try a couple of the club sprints next year 😬
