  1. After returning from a drive I noticed that the rear Watts link had come unfastened from the captive bush under the rear wing. I have obtained the bolt to refit it but the rear suspension now seems out of alignment and the bar won't swing into position. I don't know where or how to apply force to realign the De Dion tube and rotate the central trunnion into the position shown on the other side of the car. Can anyone help?
  2. I have just got hold of new headlamp bowls as I had a cracked glass in one of the originals - 2008 car. The originals have a 20mm dia hole for the sidelight grommet and bulb. The new ones have a 13.5mm dia hole. Anybody know if the sidelight arrangement needs changing or I need different replacement bowls?
  3. Thanks a lot John for doing that. Hope you and yours are OK. I'm getting jabbed on Saturday.
  4. John, How much clearance have got in the wheel arches with ZZS 195/50 on 15" rims? They will be my next choice on my R400D after my CR500's expire.
  5. Just heard back from the very helpful Martin Phipps that my 2008 R400D was fitted with a Quaife ATB. The test in #362 also confirm this.My research has also established that the reason it is so noisy is that CC were fitting non Ford OE crown wheel and pinion sets in that period and they were not made to the same tolerances.
  6. Thanks Scott, I did the preload test yesterday and got 50-60 lb ft. I'll try the test you suggest and get back. What preload should a torque biasing LSD have?I can't understand why, if the different types of internals are so different, why CC aren't explicit about which types are available and make it an option in the spec of a car.
  7. One of the issues that this thread has thrown up is that it is difficult to establish which LSD internals a car has. Does anyone know how to tell without removing the driveshafts for the "Angus Davidson" test. Are there any stamped codes on the outside of the Ford casing? My car is a 2008 R400D with 25k miles since new. Does anybody know what type CC were fitting then?
  8. It's the small one on the right.
  9. FWIW I think cages are for the track but on the road not only look daft but also spoil the classic look of the car. Now flame me. Bob
  10. I think the view on here is that the brake pedal feel is different and more "wooden" with the uprated master cylinder and most prefer the standard for road use. FWIW.
  11. John, I wondered what, apart from the rod ends and droplinks, you had found needed refurbishment in the suspension? I have the same car at 20k and wondered what to look out for over the winter servicing.
  12. John, good shout. I'd also like to cure the squeaks in the rear suspension setup. Any idea where they might be coming from in your experience?
  13. Angus and John, you both have BM. Bob
  14. Won't that add weight?! Perhaps we can discuss on Saturday!
  15. Another vote for crimping from me. Saves the weight of the solder too!! Seeya Friday.
