  1. Tucked away in the new town ... Seven's my daily drive, so the Gyle commute's one of my five a day! The winter tyres have turned it into a tail happy animal by the way, so give me a wide berth if you see me heading towards you on anything other than an arrow straight length of Tarmac! Don't s'pose that's your gunmetal grey / black stripes seven is it?
  2. Just fitted winter tyres, and the clearance to the outside edge of the cycle wings is alarmingly small now. Anyone ever managed to bend their wings up a mill or two, and if so... and practical tips? ... if it's doable, can I just do it the caveman way and yank the wings with them fitted to the car (without cracking the carbon or bending the suspension etc?)
  3. Between us we must be able to influence Caterham to make a few practical fixes to dash layout... they could even sell it as an upgrade called "The people who drive their 7s rather than trailer them to a track pack" ... let's get a list going! I'll start: 1) no buzzer, but a small LED within field of vision (eg near the Aces lights) 2) a button near the indicator switch for a single wiper shot 3) an extended heater pull knob so you don't have to unbuckle to adjust 4) A proper horn 5) A better pair of wing mirrors
  4. been watching Caterham Drift Experience Day videos to help me finalise xmas list ... but all the cars on there ride twice as high as mine ... made me think ... not sure what the "right" height is. Open forum: your thoughts?!!
  5. I'll have them if you never made it to the tip! let me know and I'll arrange collection within the week Cheers Simon
  6. Quoting rynicolson: On Wednesday... think you were on Queen St... t'was I ... did you hear every part of the car rattling?... Edinburgh's shameful roads are mitigated only by how slippery (fun) they are after a spattering of rain :-)

    M6 J17

Quoting john g: Blue/orange (gulf colours?) M6 J17 south bound about 17:45 today. Thanks for the nice weather! ... the rest of the Edinburgh to Penzance run was gale force and torrential!! ... the weather had better improve now I'm in cornwall!!
  8. that's me! ... strangely underwhelming event, no? BTW, how does one register for Jock's 7s forum?... I cant find a link to do so anywhere! ☹️ Cheers Simon
  9. Quoting Steve Newman: Simply a case of different standards applied by VOSA/MOT and the FIA. MOT goes on visual inspection of condition, FIA gives a finite lifetime. ... yeah, but surely it's done for a reason each way ... do the FIA have cause to believe that a seatbelt may look absolutely fine but be too old to be safe?... if so, then surely the MOT test ain't worth much cop ... am I to feel ok if I'm on the road with ancient belts just because they look ok? mmmm to be honest, I'm probably just looking for a reasonable excuse to blow some (tight) cash on new belts
  10. Sorry to dredge up an old one here, but mine have be invalids since 2009 ... I'm not positive I understand why if deemed unsafe for racing they would be any safer for road use... Any pearls of wisdom out there?
  11. Also... if you will not be tracking regularly, and are considering touring, then I doubt you'll be replacing that windscreen with the aero anytime soon... I'll admit to only short exposure to aero screens, but that is an AMAZING amount of exposure in a short time!!
  12. Quoting Stationary M25 Traveller: Full hood is a bit of a waste of time. Once you have a half hood, you won't want to use the full hood again. Haven't touched ours since buying a Half Hood almost six years ago - including a lot of tours at home and in Europe. here here ... for all weather commuting, nipping to shops / touring, you only need a half hood for weather protection and a Softbits little cover (is it called a shower cap or something?) for security (amazingly effective for a little sheet of thin plastic!) ... my hood gathers dust, and I use in R-EEK daily ... and have done through this month!!
  13. ohh... 9am on Friday ... that was the test drive that confirmed it was the hub and not the bearing that was knackered (actually, they'd kind of knackered each other) ... you should've seen my face on Princes Street on Sunday... that was a grin !
  14. Quoting charlie_pank: You: spare wheel, half hood, grumpy face Me: Leather jacket, dreadlocks, hound, big grin Yeah ... I do grumpy faces between the slippery cobbled corners in the New Town ... I find the muscles need a rest between grins !! 😬
