Having bought my 3rd Caterham recently (Nov) having been without for 5 years, I think I kind of rushed in with my wish list and didnt think too much through regarding the actual posibility of upgrades, wheel/tyre combos and/or what its worth come resale route for upgrade.
So having rushed to buy my supersport 135bhp (ex grad conversion I believe) I find its got wider wheels on the back with 205/55/13's and narrower front with 175/55/13's. Reading the threads in the history I see so many varying comments that Im a bit confused.
I bought the car from Caterham South and wondered if you could help with the following....(be gentle with me Im venturing into this car being the first one i get my hands dirty with and want to start doing some stuff myself.
1) It appears this wheel/tyre combo with only 135bhp makes my car "overtyred", I dont intend to track race it, I want to do tours, and it seems ok in handling to me. Would Caterham have adjusted the wheel camber etc and ride height (things ive read need sorting) before I bought the car as it obviously isnt wearing the same rubber as when new.?
2) One of the previous owners (im the third) raced the car before converting to roadsport spec but im unsure who had upgrade to supersport (135bhp) done, can the car be upgraded further or should i be looking at a cheaper option, if it is cheaper, of changing the engine?
3) With tatty trim details is it hard to change the rubber joints between interior panels and the framework? (inner panel on wheel arch where yer arse rubs against it getting in ha ha )
4) The wheels have the paint coming away on the inside edges in huge chunks although the out sides look good. Is this only cosmetic?
Sad beginner questions but I know this is the best place to ask. thanks in advance
