  1. I need a new silencer for my 91 xflow. a mate up here in the Mid-Staffs gang has recommended Powerspeed. Although I see regular glowing reports on the quality of the Raceco gear - the prices are a bit high for a 13 year old car that only does c. 3-4 track days a year I've talked to Dave at Powerspeed and he reckons c.£200+vat should sort me a 6.5inch repackable silencer. No doubt the shy and retiring amongst you willprovide some feedback on these guys or make other suggestions *tongue* Cheers Rog
  2. Chelspeed - thanks for the advice. I've had a look at the shocks and they are the old Bilsteins. Problem is the spring cups are already on the highest setting ...damn. Suppose it's new shocks / adjustable platform solution now Cheers Rog
  3. another starter for ten. Had to replace the de dion tube on a '91 xflow. On the old tube there c.4-5in bolts attaching through the tube to the shocks. On the new one the bolt screw into the tube. The result is that everything runs fine but the ride height is lower by c.0.5-1 inch. Exhaust catches on trailer where as it didn't before..... Can this be rectified 🤔 Cheers Rog
  4. Ok I'm a numpty....I've lost the oil filler cap . On a 1700 Supersprint is the cap a pressurised one or will anything do temporarily? doh Rog
  5. take a look at these here Rog
  6. At Oulton yesterday my Xflow seemed to fill up the expansion bottle quite readily and then sprayed wings, offside of engine bay. A mate of mine who is more mechanically minded than me (who was there) reckoned I might want to get the crankcase pressure tested. Was he being alarmist or is it just down to the old engine 🤔 Rog
  7. snapped this at Oulton yesterday after a large spin ☹️ (see Chitchat Any tips for the replacement process? Cheers Rog
  8. ..for a '91 vintage xflow de dion. Old style leather seats. Anyone got any headrests going spare? Rog
  9. Ok I think I've finally decided to hang to the noisy old bu**ger. I've had a few discussions with Steve at Vulcan but haven't got the c.£2-2.5k at present ☹️...so I was wondering ..as a project over the next winter what is feasible for someone to do engine-wise to improve power and or torque (preferably the latter). Bear in mind the last time I took a head off the car was about 1979! ...or am I dreaming / pissing in the wind etc. Any advice / thoughts are appreciated Rog
  10. I have an opportunity to have a freee set of brake parts eg discs, pads, etc (yes from a kosher source!) From what I can make out from the history file of my car they were replaced back in '97 but no part numbers were quoted. Does anyone know what the modern (last ten years) donor vehicle was - or any part numbers from Bendix, Lucas, AP etc might be Rog
  11. Thanks all 7heaven - my bar is the tall 'Arch' bar - the holes for the two vertical bars (ie by your head) do not line up at all. I'm certain I need a different cover. Presumably CC sell them? Rog
  12. Finally fitted high FIA bar ...those two bolts have to be the most inaccessible little critters I've ever had to fit...you know the ones that go up from underneath (oo er!) Anyway the rear deck no longer seems to fit given the angle of the struts coming from the rear of the car Is there a different cover available...or am I missing a trick ❗ Rog
  13. Have just acquired an FIA bar (taller type thereof) and strut..(thanks Mark Haywood 😬 Three things - firstly do I have to fit the strut for track day use Secondly whereabouts does it attach to on the car?..(yes I know they're daft questions ) Thirdly before I go taking the back end of the car to pieces any tricks / things I need to know etc. The bar came off a 2002 de dion - I have a '91 Xflow de dion Cheers Rog
  14. to fit a '91 Xflow de Dion. getting fed up of missing Club track days Rog
  15. Jeff I wondered what prompted the sale 😬 It's called demonstrator pink because people object to it!!!!! *tongue* *tongue* Good luck with the racing mate Rog
  16. I'll go with Piers.....Mobil 1 is what I put in last time and no probs *thumbup* Rog
  17. Now that Mr King has retired..........any advice / good experience with other firms (preferably in the Midlands) who could offer similar xflow upgrades to say 155-165 hp and yet remain reliable Cheers Rog
  18. Well the consensus certainly seems to start with good old Mr King and his copper gaskets You're right Puremalt I should have a little more patience with the old girl........and with the car!! *eek* The guys at Caterham had a complete new flange made and fitted to the existing pipes. I assume this should have created the perfect match..but I also acknowledge that I should pay a little more attention to the bolts periodically. as ever guys - thanks for your replies, although I do note that not one of you suggested the upgrade route! Cheers Rog *thumbup*
  19. Put it this way my car seems to take great delight in blowing the gasket for cylinders 2 & 3 and consequently I'm about to blow mine! This problem first happened about 18 months ago. Despite me having fitted approx. 3 myself I had a new flange made and fitted at Caterham Midlands. This seemed to cure the problem until this weekend *mad* Car is a '91 1.7 X/flow Now it sounds more like a b*****d Beetle than anything else *mad* *eek* Anyone have any permanent ideas other than complete replacement of vehicle with R300 😬 😬 Rog
  20. Dave Based nr Derby and co-incidentally the meet at Kings Arms should be 1st May Thanks for the advice guys *thumbup* Rog
  21. Apologies for being bone idle and not checking old blatchats...advice please. On my 91 X/flow dedion I have four(at the last count).....wait for it..Goodyear Eagle NCT 2 195/50R15s. Despite a good thrashing round Cadwell last year they appear as intact and wear free as the day I got the car from Caterham in October 2000. I see lots of chat re ACBs and others. I only do c.2 trackdays a year so mostly used for road.Should I a) stick with 15" (ooeerr most blokes'd be quite happy with that!!) and change the rubber, b) down size to 14" with different rubber, or c) a mixture of the two and keep 15" and new rubber and have a second set of tyres for trackday. Oh no I've confused myself now *confused* Prisoner wheels look good but........................help Rog
  22. Hey novice...no one likes a smart a?*e *tongue* Rog
  23. Thanks to all for your advice - got home no problems after a pleasant blat through the Derbyshire/Staffs lanes 😬 😬 😬 *thumbup* *cool* Cheers Rog
  24. Accelerating away from a junction and holding car in third at c.3k rpm ready ot overtake truck my car ('91 Xflow on twin DCOE 45s), wnet sluggish, chuffed a bit, then smoke appeared from the bonnet by the filters. Engine also revved up to 3000 once I depressed the clutch. I managed to coast into a layby and kill the engine. Smoke disipated quickly enough. After a couple of phone calls I waited for c. 5-10 minutes and tried the car again. After a little persuasion it fired up and I completed the remainder of my journey (c.4 miles). I kept it to Rog
