  1. For a 1995-ish 1.4K 16V Supersport. 1 cam cover, or what Rover call a cylinder head cover. Nth Surrey/Sth London based.
  2. Yeah, but we are only talking about LFB here not the composition of the Cosmos. Science is the description of the discrete units of the Art that is life and Art is the understanding and application of the discrete units of scientific analysis. Therefore driving as an art is the application of the scientific principles (and vice versa). Is LFB useful in long sweeping bends or not?????smile.gifsmile.gif
  3. Arnie or anyone have the number for Road Race Transmissions? Andrew, I will take you up on that! (Hope you have good insurance!!!)smile.gif Edited by - Rory McLeod on 22 Jan 2001 13:50:13
  4. Good question and I look forward to the answers. I have a 1.4K bought in May, having done just a couple of track days in it I find the only gears I use are 2nd & 3rd with the occasional 4th on a long straight. I am considering the 6 speed route simply to protect the engine & (finances permitting) a set of differing diffs(sic).
  5. And in Germanic spelling mode...wink.gif
  6. Hmm Charels: An engine going po-po-po-po-po is not good. If it goes po-po-pi-po-po may I suggest an engine tuner, and if (heaven forbid) it goes po-do-diddle-eye-do I reckomend you copyright it for the spice girls next single... smile.gif smile.gif Yours in Ineffable foolishness
  7. From Alex's website... Oooh Rover bits on the beloved VX, is this just the start of the conversion....smile.gif
  8. Thanks all, this has been a very informative thread for me!
  9. OK time to show my hignorance (again!), why cant you DDC a sequential box? (and yes I dont really know the diff tween straight cut and sequential boxes). To me, engine rotation is transferred to propshaft rotation via a gearbox, so on a downshift you spin up the engine to ease the wear on the clutch due to the rotation difference tween g.box and engine. Are the ratios on a sequential box close enough not to have to do this? Edited by - Rory McLeod on 17 Jan 2001 19:51:13
  10. Isnt it illegal (UK) to run without a spare?
  11. Andy: Well I have done the thousand quid course with John L but we didnt get on to heel toeing - I think he reserves that for his Race Techniques course. The other books - off to the library on Saturday!
  12. As a novice to this fast driving thing, I am interested in anything that smooths/improves my driving, increases control etc. At Anglesey there is a short straight followed by a hairpin. I was using rather savage late braking with a DDC and BANG on the throttle to get the revs high enough to get down a gear. This was patently engine & clutch unsympathetic and uncontrolled as I was doing too much in too short a time half a second off the brakes is a lot of distance. Having had heel-toeing explained to me today, I am practising it in my Fiesta (honestly) as this would patently smooth the whole approach to this particular set of circumstances giving more time for concentrating on other things (like the tyre wall 20 feet in front of you)! If this is the wrong technique for this obstacle let me know - I cant afford a second clutch - I have to replace the current one. Edited by - Rory McLeod on 16 Jan 2001 19:27:10
  13. Grrnarrghharf!! *-*$$%^! Well I just went to check the plug cover, both SHCS's seemed tight enough, but OK I will remove it just in case it is a loose plug. Hmm 1st CS undoes after 1 turn the 2nd after about 5. Oh look! the Ally stud supporting the cover has broken away from the head leaving a nice round hole - how interesting! Why on earth did 'they' cast the heads leaving a hollow approx 10mm long projecting through the centre of these studs leaving about a 2.5mm wall at what would be a point of high stress when tightening/loosening the SHCS's - absolutely insane.thumbsdown.gifthumbsdown.gifthumbsdown.gif idea.gifI am opting for a rh/lh stud solution (if I can locate my very old taps and dies) with a final ally weld around the base for strength. Anyone know who Caterham use for their ally welding? To 'cap' it all I am still not sure if that was the cause of the rattle! BEWARE: Dont do those SHCS's up too tight!!!!!
  14. Hi all. Following a severe thrash at Anglesey there is a very loud tinny rattle (sounds a lot like a loose exhaust manifold bolt would sound) that comes on every time the throttle is killed or at the start of a power sequence. It is coming from inside the head. I intend to get the head off to solve the problem but I am no car mechanic so would appreciate all and any pointers as to what YOU think it might be so that I can check for all possible events. My first thoughts are valve guide-ish (if I had tappets I would assume these had opened right up) The car got me back to Surrey (approx 350 miles - scenic route) with no power problems at all however. All advice gratefully received! (except the rude stuff smile.gif)
  15. Well this topic has prompted me to post... Saturday morning, out at 7am for a fast run down to Polley's near Uckfield from the suburbs of Sth London. Man What an excellent morning!! Those of you who were out in their 7's know what I mean! However, I encountered one slight problem in the shape of a horse box.. The thing was pottering along at 30-40 mph on the A22 towards E. Grinstead when I noticed that it must have been through some form of Lorry Wash (it was very clean) because every time it took a right hand bend a stream of liquid would appear from the left hand corner and coat my car in fine droplets of water. You may have guessed it but it was a while before dawned on me that this was no ordinary liquid residue, due to the seemingly infinite quantity of the stuff divesting itself through what must have been a drain hole in the horse box! Go screenless? NO THANKS !!! (By the way are there any vets out there that can tell me whether equine urea is corrosive?) smile.gifsmile.gif
