  1. Trevor, they are yours, don't sound sticky enough for my requirements. Thanks, Rob
  2. I'll have them if they are sticky. Any idea of the compound? Rob
  3. I'm also interested, how much do you want for them and do you know the compound and how much wear is left? I'm looking for sprint / hillclimb slicks with 3mmm of wear left. Thanks, Rob
  4. I'll get my car fully sorted in the end... Then I'll have to sell it Come on you Busa kids, surely one of you has fettled this already.
  5. Thanks Atinod, but I managed to bodge a fix on Saturday so no urgent requirement at the moment. I'll also be buying a spare. The reason I want to change it round is that it just makes more sense, rather than routing it all the way round the engine bay it can go straight from the pedal box to the throttle mechanism....
  6. Morning All, I have a BUSA engined car that I was hill-climbing at Barbon Manor at the weekend. On my second run the throttle cable broke and I ended up free wheeling back to the start backwards! I'm sure I can get a new cable to fix it, but at the moment the cable routing is from the pedal box, all the way round to the other side of the engine and then connects with the throttle mechanism. I'm pretty sure you can reverse the end of the throttle mechanism so that the cable doesn't have to go as far, ie it only goes from the pedal box straight to the throttle. Has anyone done this mod that could explain how/what I need? Thanks in advance for any help, Rob
  7. I am looking on behalf of a friend for 4 off sprint / hillclimb slicks to fit on 13" x 7" rims. Preferably Avon, but anything sticky considered . If anyone knows of a company that sells second hand ones please let me know. Thanks, Rob
  8. Probably, if you haven't over-torqued them. But I wouldn't risk it, if you have ever seen what happens when a propshaft gets loose
  9. Thanks, I will pass then.
  10. Mark, do you know what compound they are? A friend is looking for some hillclimb slicks so wants them to be the extra soft type... Thanks, Rob
  11. Well I often visit the darkside (the WSCC site) to see what they are up to (they are actually quite a helpful bunch), and they seem to be under the impression that they are much faster than the Caterhams. Would be good to clear that matter up....
  12. Morning All, I realise there is regular banter about which car is faster; the Caterham 7 or the West*****. At the last meeting of the year in October I believe both clubs are at Angelsey for the last sprint of the year. Would it be of interest to hold a challenge to see who can set the fastest time in an unlimited class? Just wondering, it could settle a few arguments...... All the best, Rob
  13. Bailey Morris have had a look at the prop now and advised it has failed due to overheating of one of the bearings in the UJ. Probably caused by the grease nipples not being AWOL. The grease splattered all over the tunnel should have told me something was wrong 🙆🏻. Anyway, they are going to replace the UJs with a no-maintenance type and send me the whole assembly back. Rubbery prop to be installed in the rear propshaft as not enough room in the front. Lesson learn't. Rob
  14. I believe the old double diffuser is the best way to go if you start to get a bit handy with the aluminium fettling. Seems to have worked very well for Jenson and his mates 😬
  15. Cut the nobbles off those tyres like the old chap in the World's Fastest Indian (great film to watch for speed freaks) to cut down rolling resistance.
  16. Well, I spoke to BM and they said it was likely that it was likely caused by a combination of the torque from engine plus the reverse torque from the road through the drivetrain. They suggested that this maybe cured by making the front propshaft a TRT propshaft but they would like to see the shaft to analyse the failure mode. He doesn't want the rear propshaft, alterations to the front one only... Will let you know more when I do. Rob Edited by - u01rsb on 5 May 2009 21:24:27
  17. Harewood to be revisted on the first and second of August, looking to go sub 56 something if I remember rightly?
  18. I did get a 42.65 and FTD on my second to last run though 😬
  19. 2 UJs on my front prop, just lubed about 2 weeks ago and visually inspected by myself (so that means - yep looks alright ). Bailey Morris (BM) supplied about 2 years ago. I'm going to speak to BM later this afternoon and I'll let you know what they say..
  20. Not rubber donut, would prefer to get my prop modified to incorporate a rubber insert. No problems last year without a rubber insert but now I have more torque it might be wise....
  21. Thanks Epimetheus, I have a breather and it works great, glad to hear the quaife will take the strain as well. I will look at propshaft retainers, it certainly has made a bit of a mess of the footwell, can you get these at BM also? Not sure why you say the current BM shafts will take the strain as obviously the UJ couldn't on Saturday? Rob
  22. Morning All, Just had a great weekend at Oliver's Mount in Scarborough. first sprint since upgrading my Busa engine giving bags more torque and power..... Unfortunately it was too much power for my drive-train. Exiting out of the lower hairpin on my last run of the day my UJ gave way on my front propshaft (between the engine and quaife reverse box). I've got the propshaft out now but would like some advice on how to proceed. The shafts (fore and aft) were made by Bailey Morris. However as I live in Leeds I was going to go to the propshaft clinic in Leeds to see if they could upgrade them to handle the greater torque. Questions are: Should I upgrade the front and rear propshaft? (seems sensible) Should the front one have a rubber sleeving in it to reduce shock loading? Is my quaife reverse box up to the job? Thanks in advance, Rob
  23. I used to have a subaru impreza that vibrated at around that speed due to the fact that I had damaged the steering alignment. Worth checking your alignment? *confused*
  24. My local tyre supplier asked if I wanted my slicks balancing as if it was optional, but in my book the answer was always going to be of course. As you say they do pick up bits of rubber but it does tend to be distributed evenly ish. I think I may be at fault sometimes by not buffing them evenly, I can't worry about every little thing though. Good luck with you investigation, you know it will be obvious when you crack it
  25. I got a nasty vibration at 3 sisters, I thought it was the track surface as it isn't the best, but discovered it was the prop-shaft that came away from the reverse box on my next run 🙆🏻. I check the bolts a bit more often nowadays
