  1. Looking for some experience and help please. I have Duratec R300 Suoerlight that has had an aeroscreen since build. To increase use options for the car and to do a bit if touring, I am looking at retro fitting windscreen, wipers / motor etc, bottles etc. The three holes for wipers and jet are already there and "grommetted" at factory. The dash has the silver push buttons in place for wipers and jet. I have no heater and planking plate riveted in place. Any experience of doing this ? Keen not to take scuttle off. Can I get in behind dash by taking blanking plate off ? Does dash come off easily (can't remember from build) ? Anyone done this before and have any hints or tips ? I am assuming the loom points are in place as there must only be one loom ? All help gratefully appreciated ....
  2. I had a problem when I built my r 300 Superlight with BMW diff a few years ago. The seals were weeping after a few hundred miles . The cause was the seals were slightly too deeply set in the casing and had to be replaced but a few MM. Closer to the end ge if the casing. They were replaced by CC and I have not had a problem since. The positioning of the seal in the casing is probably something to think about when you are replacing.
  3. Thx for all the comments and info guys. In particular, thx for the various descriptions of the induction noise !! I am sold and will get it organised in the New Year. I have an F Type Jaguar S AWD which is biblical with the exhaust valves open in Sport and the supercharger screaming. This should help its little red Seven brother match it. The main benefit I think I will get it seems is in smooth increased power delivery. At the moment I do the hard work on corners and breaking to catch most other cars at Knockhill but need that extra pull out of the hairpin and on the straight up the hill to just get the pass complete.
  4. Thx for reply John, I tracked down your thread and it is really helpful. The Caterham option seem easier and lower risk but they are too far away to forget them to do the work. Do you know if CC will remap the car after the fitting ? Good luck with the work and enjoy ..... P
  5. I have a 175 bhp Duratec Superlight R300. Three years on from the build, I am now looking to upgrade power. Thinking of going for something along the lines of the Caterham 225 bhp upgrade with throttle bodies, injectors and cams. I live in Scotland so would be getting Dreadnought in Callander to do the work given the cam change. I wondered if anyone had experience of this mod, something similar or an alternative route to go down from this base engine ? Thx.
  6. Caterham called yesterday to say that the my parts had been sent to Dreadnought. I am booked in first week in October. Parts supply seems to be drifting North. Can anyone help me with how the BMW Diff and the new backplate "breathes" ? I have had an issue with significant oil loss through the driveshaft seals under pressue when the diff is warmed . I am hoping to get this resolved when the diff is out.
  7. No dates for availability of parts in Scotland. just "will let you now when we get parts, don't book in with Dreadnought", I am chasing James weekly but the message is the same and August slips away. So if I want to trail the car 400 miles, I might get a run this Summer ... Would be interested if anyone is getting anything outside of their Mids and South bases. They don't seem to be able to organise an adequate production run of parts and seem to be dripping them into the supply chain about a year after they first became aware of the problem. No other manufacturer would get away with it.
  8. I would be pressing for a new tube as should everyone who has damage You bought a car that, as designed, has damaged a key part that, at the least, will now corrode at an accelerated rate. What tests have CC done to be assured that the tube will be safe through its full life ? Is it for you to treat the area with Hammerite ? Time we pushed back collectively, they need to bear the full cost of their sloppy design process and lack of care for their customers.
  9. Brian at Dreadnought here in Scotland told me there was no point booking until the parts are confirmed as available. I emailed James Gibson at CC who said Mid July was best guess and I should try him again then. As I also have an issue with a badly leaking diff when the car is being driven, James told me the new back plate has a re-designed breather. Very frustrating as the Summer drifts by.
  10. Thanks Guys. I am not missing anything obvious. I had contacted James who had sent me seals and said it could be checked at Dreadnought Motors, the Caterham Service place here in Scotland. I will go down the later route? It is clearly either shaft or seal.
  11. I have completed the build of an R300 with BMW Diff. it only has 200 miles running. I have diff oil coming through seal on passenger side and spinning off onto bulkhead and A frame etc. Enough to need a clean after every run. On the first couple of runs it happened on driver side but that is dry now. I have checked level and there was some overfill. It is dry when stationary and level. I have removed and refitted both drive shafts. I did not replace the seals as they looked fine and looked difficult to get out. Any thoughts or insight from similar experiences welcomed. Am I missing something ? Does the seal take time to bed in ? Is it a pressure issue, i can't see a breather ? Will changing the seal make any difference ? Has anyone done this on the BMW before, best way to get seal out ? Thx for taking the time to read.
