  1. I can second that. I sent off the paperwork in the middle of April and got 20th June. When I queried the delay with CC they said that Gillingham was testing a lot of minibuses and that was causing the delay (because they take longer to test). Someone mentioned that it might be to do with the Olympics (what else!). Perhaps CC midlands might be quicker? Andrew
  2. Wolf 1 ton folding engine crane. Bought this in March from ebay for £139. Used it once to fit engine to my new Supersport. £100 ono. Identical to here Andrew Edited by - 1360rallye on 17 Jun 2012 19:48:52 Edited by - 1360rallye on 17 Jun 2012 19:51:37 Edited by - 1360rallye on 17 Jun 2012 19:54:21 Edited by - 1360rallye on 17 Jun 2012 21:29:20
  3. I made up couple of alloy plates to blank off the gap between the sides of the footwell and the sideskin - which are grot traps. Just glued them on with silicone seal after spraying lots of Dinitrol in the gap. Andrew
  4. An evening on the spanners and it's sorted. Removed front struts (a pain to undo the top bolt) - refitted them upside down (tried to move the circip on the platform to create more height but there was no way the spring would refit so simply fitted it upsidedown as instructed. Turning to the rear suspension I removed the struts and removed the circlip on the spring platform and moved it down to the next grove (1"). Refitted the shocks and' with the platform rings unscrewed to the max I have 1.5" between DD and chassis rail on full droop. Lowered everything back in to the ground and hey presto I've got 80mm under the sump, 125mm under the chassis rail at the engine mount and 140mm under the chassis rail at the front of the rear wheel arch. Feel quite chuffed now as I've learned a bit more - but there really should be a few more clues in the Assembly Guide. Andrew
  5. Just been on the phone to CC Tech dept. They confirm that SS has different shocks and doesn't need a spacer at the top. Their advice 1. Fit the shocks upside down - otherwise may encounter problems with IVA when on full droop 2. When I take the shocks off look at where the thread is mounted - apparently I may be able to move the threaded tube ( which is located with a circlip) and create extra room to wind up the adjustable mounts. On the DD sitting so close to the chassis rail even when under load they didn't have answer - other than we will sort it during PBC. Will have a look at this over the weekend and report back... Andrew
  6. From memory there was just a spacer that fitted inside the mounting bush and a recessed bolt.
  7. Hi Giles That was my first thought - and I asked Sean about them - but he said it didn't need them. Anyone else with a SS have them? Andrew
  8. Thanks chaps - the power of BC to calm the worried builder! The car goes back to Dartford on 8th for PBC/SVA - so I think I'll ask them to check/raise the ride height. Andrew
  9. Giles - http://s406.photobucket.com/albums/pp143/1360rallye/?action=view&current=DSCF2961.jpg Richard - I am measuring the spring length with the car on axle stands - 160mm both sides. Re the rear suspension - how far should the DD sit above the chassis rails when the DD is supporting the weight of the car? (the rear spring platforms are at their outermost setting) Andrew
  10. Hi Giles It's a http://www.caterhamparts.co.uk/product.php?id_product=685 Andrew
  11. Hi Mark Mine is an S3 with wide track front suspension. I'm at the max adjustment at the front and still too low. Andrew
  12. I've almost completed building my Supersport. Yesterday I lowered it on to it's wheels and thought that looks very low. I had only 50mm under the sump and the back of the car was very high. So I tried winding in the front shocks without much impact on the ride height. Checked with CC today and was advised that 165mm would be the correct spring length- well I've got shorter than that already and it's still around 50mm.... At the rear the DD seems to sit less than 10mm above the chassis tube when the car is supported by axle stands under the DD. I suspect I've done something wrong - just can't work out what... Andrew
  13. Thanks for the replies - it's great to have access to your experience/advice. Andrew
  14. Thanks Peter It's the lack of a third pipe out of the radiator that stumps me. in addition to the two heater connections I've got a small pipe at the back rhs of the engine that I suspect goes to the small pipe on the expansion tank, a bigger pipe also at the back rhs which as you say goes to the heater. Then I've only one pipe emerging from the lhs of the block (next to the where the bottom hose emerges) which I guess should go to the bottom of the expansion tank (and I suspect have a t peice somewhere). I did have some pictures sent by Sean but they were Supersports without the heater... Andrew
  15. I've reached the part of my build today where I need to install the cooling pipes. I've fitted the fan and radiator, the top and bottom hoses. But I'm now left with lots of pipes and a a not very helpful Assembly Guide. BTW I've a heater to plumb in as well. My radiator only has top and bottom hose pipes which isn't what's shown in the AG. Going to have cup of tea and hope that someone out there has the answer... Andrew
  16. Before hiring/buying an engine hoist (some good deals on Ebay) to fit my engine/ gearbox (the build seems to be going better than I expected) I wondered if anyone near to me (BS49 - close to M5 Jct 20) might have an engine hoist cluttering their garage that they could lend me for a couple of weeks in exchange for a donation to NTL? You can follow my Supersport build here. Andrew
  17. Just had a double check of the numbers on my Supersport boxes (delivered 2 weeks ago)- diff says 3.91 and gearbox has the code for the c/r box 36G003A. Hopefully that means what's in the boxes will correspond to those references. Andrew
  18. Thanks Ian for the excellent camera work. Seems like I can cross off that question and substitute the "should I follow the manual and tighten the wishbone mounts?". Still, two days into the build I'm pretty pleased with progress and getting a stream of neighbours asking "What's that your building?". Will start that build bog this week - got to try and keep up with Ian... Andrew
  19. Just started the build today. I've built most of the front corner but have one question - the top of the shock absorber is very close to the head of the rear mounting bolt on the upper wishbone (just a mm or so away). Is this normal? Andrew
