  1. Roger I like the video so much I couldn't keep it to myself!

Although Swindon no longer support these engines several of the SRE guys from the glory days of the BTCC are still building race engines with Paul Broadway at Ridgeway.   There is a signed picture of James Thompson's Cavalier in the workshop and I was so pleased to have Malcolm Wilcock's with his years of experience rebuild the engine.  Re the stutter Ian I guess that was related to throttle application but a rolling road session will be required following reinstallation and the mapping is done by Steve Hurst who has a very long association with SRE.

Alan I look forward to completing the rebuild and seeing you in the Spring still remembering the hair raising test drive all those years ago and the glorious noise that accompanied it!

    Best wishes to you all.

A couple of pics to help you Alan,

This is the Brise Denso alternator. It rests on the standard bolt through the cylindrical bracket in the (reinforced) engine mtg block. The strap was from SBD, Swindon made the bracket from the block to the strap and in addition two steel top hat sleeves for the alternator base and an additional sleeve for the cylindrical bracket itself to prevent movement.

  3. Caterham specified magnesium centres for the R500 and Mike supplied them, but like all racing wheels they need careful looking after and crack testing at intervals.  I have had several sets for at least ten years (including a couple of years of sprinting and 4 years of racing) with no issues.  Believe me there is nothing that Mike does not know about racing wheels but as 2GBR says he cares little for PR or for BS. .
