  2. Can anyone tell me what size allen key I need to remove the inlet and exhaust manifolds form the head of a 1700 X Flow. I've tried every one I own and have still been defeated!!! Any other useful tips to help remove the head, greatly appreciated. Richard

  4. I'm sure this question has been asked before - however! I'd like to get my Crossflow 1700 SS tuned properly on a rolling road. I note that there appears to be a wide variation in prices and talent, so who do I trust. I've just moved into the area, and have no experience of the garages around here. Anyone from this part of the world have any recommendations? Regards Richard

  7. Anyone have any ideas what could be causing my troublesome gearchange. I have a 5 speed 1700 X Flow, and when cold I have the devil of a job getting it to change gear, particularly into 2nd. As the car warms up the gearchange gets better, but it's never smooth. I've tried adjusting the clutch to no avail. many thanks for any advice - Richard

    redline?

    I run a 1700 SS, with an engine built in 1992 to a higher spec than the Caterham engine, and it is balanced. My engine still has standard Supersprint pistons, and it is these that are the 'weakest link'. Roger King's advice to me recently was to red line at 6000 rpm. Any more than this and you risk an expensive and spectacular accident. If you want your engine to rev higher Roger suggests rebuilding with forged pistons
  17. I've noticed some small spots of rust on the painted bodywork of my car, a 1992 Supersprint (around pop studs and some bolt holes). I have the top coat paint but am not sure whether I should use a particular undercoat and rust treatment. On 'normal' cars I have always used Jenolite rust eater followed by the standard primer and then top coat. I presume Ali bodied Caterhams are somewhat different - or are they? Any wisdom on tackling small rust spots?
