  1. Bob wrote- "Just bed them in properly from the first drive as many dont (incl me) and now have disk thickness problems due to eneven expansion on heating and the disks at £120 ea dont encourage you to just junk them and start over." What is the proper way to bed in the brakes? And what not to do? I'm about to start the build on my SLR with uprated front brakes and master cylinder. Steve
  2. Took delivery of my SLR last week. It has 6 sets of louvers since I requested it to be that way. No heater and I like the look of 6. Louvers are dependent mostly on when the car was made and, sometimes, how it was ordered.
  3. Joe, I am going with the BGH 5 speed from Caterham USA. I do believe the box I'll be getting is the E6 box from the chart on this page http://hometown.aol.com/dvandrews/bghpage.htm but have sent an email to confirm. The choice of gearbox and rear end ration was a hard one for me but I ended up with a 3.92 rear for my Superlight R with Zetec SVT engine of about 185 HP. From what I can tell, the Zetec and Duratec have a broad torque range for which the 5 speed may be better than a 6 sp. Caterham USA's 25 hr. racecar used a 5 speed and the SVT engine. Have you sat in the cloth seats? I find that they don't fit my body (too much curve on the backs) while others seem happy with them. I like the Tillots and will be getting them. Give Caterham USA a call and they should be able to help you with your questions about the tires, radiator, etc. Steve Edited by - Steve Stephens on 1 Jul 2004 06:38:27
  4. Thanks all. Looks like the hole it will be by popular suggestion. Since it never rains here in California (except when I won't be using the Cat) and I don't have an oil guage that will be blocked by the strut (Stack dash), I don't see any downside to getting the hole. A bonus will be the lighter tonneau. Steve
  5. There is an option for "racing brake pedals". Does anyone know what these are and how they differ from the standard pedals? I am getting the uprated aluminum brake master cylinder on my Superlight R as did a friend here in the states on his R500 but he also got the racing pedals. I can't really see much if any difference between the standard and racing pedals but the racing ones seemed to have adjustable stops fitted if I remember correctly. Do I need/want the racing pedals? Why? Working out the small details as my final order is going in shortly. Cheers, Steve
  6. My final order is being submitted now for my new Superlight R. My dealer needs to know if I want a hole in the cockpit tonneau cover for the FIA bar petty strut. Car will be used mostly on the road without the strut fitted plus several track days per year use where I might want the bar in place. Should I get the hole in the tonneau cover or not? Has anyone gotten the cover one way but wished they had gotten it the other way (with or without hole)? Why? Is it better to run track days with or without the tonneau cover fitted. Cheers, Steve
