  10. I am seeking help on two fronts. My VX broke down for the first time last night. Firstly please can someone let me know where I can source an oil pressure relief valve for my VX 2.0 16v and the part number. My original valve sticks occasionally and I hate to see pressure above 6 bar. My second problem is a total loss of power. It has happen once last week but last night the engine restarted on three cylinders and I was soon stranded on the side of the road again. After the engine cooled for an hour it restarted on all four and I limped home (followed by a friendly AA man ). On the first occasion I was out for a blat for about 70 miles, the car was parked for an hour or so and around 20 minutes into the trip home, when the engine was at a constant 4000rpm, I lost power. Extra throttle had an initial minimal effect, but soon the car ground to a halt with the engine still running. Spark plugs were changed yesterday afternoon, three of which were in tip top condition and the other slightly sooty. The distributor seems ok showing no sign of arching. Last night my blat out was around 75 miles. The car sat for little over an hour and on the way home whilst on a twisty ‘A’ road with mixed revs and a range of gears the power dropped in and out. I managed to limp on for 20 miles but when the car started to run on three cylinders and lacked the power to do 20mph I had to stop. The AA chap thought it could be the crank sensor but I am wondering what needs to be changed first! Your help is appreciated Edited by - Mark not Max on 28 Jun 2009 20:04:42
  11. Well guys after a weekend of clutch drag (which in no way stopped me using the car) its over for now. Last night I fiddled around with the cable a bit, nothing precise. Tried to start the car and it turned over but would not start. Pushed the start button again and there was a fairly loud clonk. When I pushed the button again, nothing. Oh dear. Had a look around, stratched my head and tried the button again and it started straight away. Put it in reverse and no crunch. No other selection problems when I took it for a spin. Not sure about the clonk, but the only other difference was the weather. Quite a few degress cooler. So only one thing for it, better arrange a sunshine tour with 5* breakdown cover. Thanks for your contributions. Mark
  12. Thanks for all of your posts on this. I am pushing to pedal to the pedal box wall, so I will make an adjustment and see if things improve. I will not get on to this until later in the week, but shall report back.
  13. Nick - thanks I shall check. Foxy - cable. Regards, Mark
  14. Found it very difficult to select 1st this morning. Went for a blat and generally so long as the car was not stationery everything seemed fine. However, this evening reverse is making a crunching sound and again 1st is very difficult to select. I am told this amounts to clutch drag. I would be grateful of a list of items to check before arranging for the engine to come out to inspect/replace the clutch. If the clutch is to be replaced should I replace the standard clutch or fit an alternative? I would appreciate your thoughts Mark
