  1. As your unit has a gaiter fitted we could assume that although the unit is dry that there is no ingress of dirt etc. So is it possible to peel back the gaiter and submerge the unit in a bath of Wd40 or similar to penetrate into the bearing and hopefully free up the shaft and spring?
  2. The unit is held together using circlips .remove top and bottom clips to expose shaft ,all will become apparent on strip down.Lubricate unit and selector fork with grease prior to rebuild. sean b
  3. I just had the exact same problem as you described, hopefully the remedy is the same as mine ? Remove passengers seat, Remove tunnel cover, you now have access to the gear leaver, unscew the 3 retaining bolts and lift out the gear-lever assembly. You can now strip down the assembly, clean all parts paying particular attention to the shaft (polish dia with wet n dry paper) and lubricate spherical bearing. Rebuild , hopefully the unit will now be freed up. Now look down into the gear selector assembly and you will see a black plastic saddle, remove the saddle and check for wear ,if you need to replace item (available from road and race) Rebuild and hopefully all will now be smooth and easy to operate Good luck Sean b
  4. This l would think is a easy question for all of the knowledgeable members out there, can someone please advise me the part number for a 2003 1.6k series alternator belt from somewhere like rimmer bros. Also although I have owned my car for over a decade can you please advise me what car was the 1.6 k series engine was sourced from eg Rover 25. Thanks Sean
  5. Hi Terry if still for sale 1st dibs please Regards Sean
  6. My car was a 2002 Roadsport 1.6 K series Mems ecu-eu3 until the dreaded H.G.F. started to show signs of developing. As i realised that this problem would only get worse and ultimately fail i decided to bite the bullet and kill two birds with one stone thus i went down the slippery path of upgradeus! So off came the head, hardness tested, fire ring peened, gas flowed and polished (as per the DVA Power website) retaining the standard valves but profiling the back face and skimmed. Install SS cams (inlet set to 0.060thou and exhaust 0.047thou ) Vernier pulleys ,new belt, bolts, water pump etc. 52 dia throttle body. Remap ecu to SS spec, carried out by Z&F (by post 48 hr turnaround) Repipe cooling system to design shown in Lowflying mag. Reassemble complete with new fluids. To my surprise and relief she fired up first time and after checking for airlocks etc let her get up to running temperature. I then noticed that the tickover was lumpy and hunting,i was not to perturbed at this point as i had read a thread from oilyhands stating that "The idle will worsen when the timing is corrected since the inlet valve opens earlier and the plenum is subjected to reversion pulses at low RPM since the cylinder still contains exhaust gases under pressure. The ECU is calibrated on manifold air pressure so It sees a confused vacuum reading, hence the hunting around " If the car is stationary and the engine speed gently increased to 3000 RPM it is possible to hear a slight intermittent roughness. However if the car is driven steadily on the level with little or no throttle in any gear to a max 3000 RPM this can manifest itself into a lumpy, hunting kangarooing driving sensation that can only be corrected by either riding the clutch or accelerating,in fact the car comes to life when revved to the max and pulls like a train, but i think the problem is still there on the overrun. At present the car is impractical to drive around town etc and I've come to the conclusion that I'm losing the pleasure aspect of using this car. I'm at a loss to know which avenue to take to correct this. My thoughts are 1 Reset the cams to be less aggressive (but loose power) 2 Is this an ECU problem (remap) 3 A suggestion by a fellow club member I met at Sherborne Castle Event was to replace the coil packs (I feel if this was the cause then this would be more noticeable under load, ie accelerating, and not on tick over where there is less load on the coils) 4 I've ruled out the lamba sensor as i have just had the car mot'd and the examiner said the emissions test results were better than a lot of the modern cars Any thoughts or input would be gratefully appreciated Sean
  7. Thanks to everyone for their valued input. all sorted lots of boxes ticked and a nice new metal impeller now off for a well earned blat sean b
  8. Thanks guys for your rapid response ,but I have one more question tried to access correct information from a motor factors outlet but can you tell me what engine is used in my 2002 k series 1.6. Eg MG/Rover 25 or model or is it a freelande
  9. Can anybody help please. after unwrapping the car from its winter hibernation I was gutted to find that on doing a preflight check that my toy had decided to dispense some of its antifreeze onto the garage floor. On closer inspection I have traced the leak to the water pump,so decided that better safe than sorry I now intend to replace the offending part . the question is can any one please supply me with a part number and supplier of a water pump ,as there is so many choices on eBay etc and I am dubious about the quality of some items Forgot to mention car is 2002 1.6 k series thanks Sean

Because the weather has been so crap I have decided to install ss cams sooner rather than later,my question is should I change cam belt and auto tensioner at same time , Cambelt changed 8000 mile ago (4yrs ago) and the car is 2002 1.6 k series? Also been on Caterham website but can't find part nos for camshaft oil seals (front) Any help please Sean
  12. Can anyone help,I plan to install a pair of ss cams to my 2002 1600 k series ecu-eu3. I have been offered a ss mems ecu-eu3 unit but not the 5As. My question is ,is it possible to synchronise the new ss mems unit to my existing 5as, also aprox cost and address of someone to carry out the work. Thanks Sean
