  1. Meant to say - its the 1.8 Rover K-Series 190bhp SLR version, if that helps...
  2. Included in the purchase of my caterham last year the guy included the original spare exhaust - I have no need for this, and given my terrible pre-Christmas cash flow situation thought now might be a good time to sell... It was originally fitted to a 2003 Superlight R, was on the car for a matter of weeks before the owner asked Caterham to change the exhaust for separate cat/silencer one, so the exhaust has seen less than a couple of months use - it was removed, put in bubble wrap and lived in a (dry) garage since. I unwrapped it this morning to look at it, have some photos but can't seem to get dropbox or anything working on my work computer... so if you're interested msg me and I can text or email photos. It is the 6 inch version, with the main box measuring 70cm long x 15cm diameter, and has the black metal guard. I'm not 100% but fairly sure, these are they... http://www.caterhamparts.co.uk/product.php?id_product=3492 http://www.caterhamparts.co.uk/product.php?id_product=3045 It could do with a bit of a clean and has a small scuff on the underside of the exhaust tip, other than that looks in good clean condition, and I've been told by the previous owner that it has seen very little use. Don't really know how much this is really worth - I just want to get a fair price for it. Given its age, condition, and that I need the pre-chrimbo cash I'll advertise this for £195 - let me know if you're interested and/or if this is a fair price. Thanks, John Edited by - JohnC7SLR on 13 Dec 2013 13:26:00
  3. Thanks for this and the BM msgs - as ever, Blatchat responses clear and helpful. Now just have to hope it brightens up a bit (when not at work) so can get the 7 out, has been a few weeks without seeing the sunshine of late
  4. Ok, I've bought the Optimate 4 and the TM72 socket connector to charge through the cigarette lighter socket. Only thing I'm slightly confused about is 'CAN-bus' - what the heck is this? From googling, it seems that this is something fitted specifically to BMW motorbikes, but can't see any reference to other systems/7s. I've got a 2003 SLR. The Optimate instructions talk about switching the programme over to the CAN-bus mode/programme for vehicles fitted with CAN-bus, to charge through 12V outlet. And don't know if I should switch over to this programme or not to connect via the cigarette lighter socket, or just leave it on the standard programme. Seems like the CAN-bus programme disables the high voltage charging, but don't know if I need this or not. Don't want anything to go pop...! Anyone got one of these and use it in the same set-up, if so, should I leave it on standard or swicth over to CAN-bus? Excuse my ignorance...! Cheers. John
  5. Ace, thanks Simon. Just looked at reviews and seems to be a great option, will go for one of them with cigar socket adapter, easy!
  6. Sorry, don't know why I wrote 9v - my mind was somewhere else. Yes I already have a socket on the dash, so probably easiest if I connect to that, although will need to see if its appropriately wired/fused. Will look into it. Thanks
  7. Doesn't need to be a dashboard socket, but would likely want to fit some sort of cable into the cabin so can plug in without taking the bonnet off. I've got a 9V socket already on the dash, not sure if you can charge through that?
  8. As is the case for most of us, the days are drawing in and the rain is being more and more persistant, which means less and less use of the 7 So, as this is my first winter of ownership, I need to get my garage set up for it - main question I have is that I assume I should get myself a trickle charger to stop the battery being drained, if so, which one do you recommend? And per chance, anyone have a spare one they're looking to sell? Thanks, John
  9. I'm after a diesel estate car - I have about £5-6k max to spend and am looking for a diesel estate, probably either a BM or an Audi, I'm thinking likely either a BMW E90 320D (would like an M-sport...!) or an Audi A6 (S-line would be best...) Would like one under 140k miles, ideally no older than 2005/6, a decent colour with good service history - don't mind if its got a few dings or scratches, its going to be a motorway and house do-er-upper car, as well as being used by the family, etc. Please let me know if you are looking to sell anything that might fit the bill for me. Cheers, John
  10. Excellent, well after I'm back from LM in the 7 (!), I'll certainly be up for a few blats in the oxfordshire countryside. 😬 Presume there must be an oxfordshire meet sometime? Maybe BM me instead of hi-jacking this thread too much! Thanks, J
  11. Yes please that would be great, thanks Jack. Moving just south of Didcot to a village called Upton.
  12. Colin, you make a very good point, oops! I'm moving to South Oxfordshire, but am renting a van the day after moving in next week, so can drive down to Berkshire/Hampshire way, or up towards Hertfordshire way for pick up. Let me know if you have anything available. Thanks.
  13. Bump... 😬 just before I buy some on fleabay
  14. Moving in to a new house next week and need a couple of emergency kitchen appliances before we properly sort out renovating the kitchen - so we need: 1. Fridge freezer - don't mind about make or colour, but needs to be one of those tall ones (not side by side). 2. Freestanding electric cooker - electric oven (main oven & grill) with 4 hob rings ontop, but does need to be electric as haven't yet sorted out gas, etc. If anyone has any going spare that you don't need and interested in selling for cheap, I'd be very keen to buy. 😬 Thanks v much, John
  15. David you're in luck... Sad to say that I've realised that I can't really justify buying this at the mo (as much as it would be fun) - in the throws of moving house so need to reign it in a bit. ☹️ Enjoy, Darren has been very helpful and it'll be a good buy. J
  16. Depending on what office... it could have been me as I work just outside Farnborough - orange with black carbon wings
  17. Hang on... I had first dibs!! Have sent you a few questions. J
  18. Just filled up with V-Power and agree with MADMALC - definitely less popping/banging on overrun and faster pick-up. Perhaps psychological...?! And yes, price differential is so small on the mileage that if it is better for the engine/car/performance then probably will stick with super. Just wanted to check cos wasn't sure if some engines were better to not have super. Thanks team.
  19. So, to resurrect a favourite old topic... what fuel should we use in our beloved 7s? I've done a quick hunt and there are numerous threads about how supermarket fuel is cr*p, and you want to go for the busiest place (so the fuel isn't sitting around for long), etc, but no specific chat on what fuel is recommended for 7s. I drive a 2002 Superlight R, with 1.8 190bhp VHPD engine (K-series). And the guy I bought it off a couple of months ago said that he only used standard unleaded - can someone enlighten me if these engines have been built to run on standard unleaded (hence we shouldn't use 'super') or whether its better to use super? I'm aware that 'super' has cleaning agents and is a higher octane, etc, but not sure if this suits certain engines more or less than others. So, what would be the best juice for my VHPD? Ta
  20. Hmmm... yes, just looked through a few threads and looks like the intermittent box is intermittently faulty - it would make sense that its some sort of relay/electrical switch fault as it repairs itself immediately when restarted. I'll continue to monitor it and remember not to use the fast wiper for any prolonged period (or wire out the intermittent wiper). I'll take it all apart and have a look when I've got a sec. Cheers
  21. Is there a relay for the wiper - doesn't seem so from the stickers on the relay/fuse console. Or does it share it with something else?
