  3. If there is too little fuel in the combustion (lean) cycle the exhaust before the cat will be hotter, because the unburned fuel actually cools the combustion in the cylinder, but if the mixture is too rich, the exhaust will be much cooler. BUT the cat will get too hot with the unburned fuel being burned off in the cat (the cats function is to burn off the unburned fuel to lower emissions) and therefore will destroy the cat.

    Have a look here

  4. Repairs Part 1

Battery off, alternator off quick trip to friendly autoelectrician

    Battery tested = *thumbup*

Alternator tested = *thumbdown* diode dead = not charging alternator repaired & tested OK

    Alternator fitted, battery fitted *thumbup*

Couldn't even get a click out of the starter solenoid *mad* Turned FIA switch on *redface*

Started 1st time 😬 no ignition light 😬

Switch off, try again = nothing *confused* repeat several times using different incantations sweet FA ☹️

Just happen to have a spare FIA switch in the back of the garage - don't ask why.

    New FIA switch fitted

Started 1st time 😬 no ignition light 😬

Started 2nd time 😬 no ignition light 😬

Started 3rd time 😬 no ignition light 😬

Currently making sacrifice to Ohms Law with amber falling over liquid *smokin*

PS SM25T should have typed 0.5 MILLI amps

  5. Jason, thanks for that *thumbup* but as Powervamp are only about 40 miles from me it would be quicker & easier to go & see them. Besides I can't wait until the beginning of May. Are the batteries date stamped?

  6. Battery is 4 years old

Alternator definately not charging - no increase in voltage with engine running and 8.9V across ignition light. *thumbdown*

    > 0.5 amp drainage on the battery with FIA switch on, reduces to 0.0 amps with FIA switch off.

  7. 1.8 VHPD, Powervamp PVR 25 Battery + FIA Battery Switch.

Originally had a problem with the ignition light staying on & assumed it was the alternator. So alternator changed seemed OK.

Car has been in the garage for a month on trickle charge (Odysee) with the FIA Switch off.

Slow to turn over but stated 3rd time. *thumbup*

A mile up the road I noticed the ignition light glowing - hard to spot in the bright sunshine, so drove home, switched off, checked connections & alternator belt, all seemed OK. Switched on, battery not turning the engine over, just enough to get the selonoid "click" *thumbdown* Battery voltage = 12.4 or 3.7 when trying to turn the engine over.

Where do I start looking/testing? *wavey*

  8. If you really want to keep the dust down and the job to last, all concrete floors need to be acid etched before painting, to remove the top soft dusty layer, and allow the paint to key into the slab.

For choice of paint, a two-pack epoxy paint is the best. When cured, nothing will stick to it, and it doesn't lift. DON'T BUY CHEAP FLOOR PAINT, IT IS CRAP. You get what you pay for, so try a reputable paint manufacturer, not a B&Q special offer.

Try Watco for floor paint, acid etch & advice.

  9. Haven't got a photo but it's located in the middle of the TB's. Just follow the wires until you nget to it

They are easy enough to clean with carb cleaner or something similar - but be very careful when taking it apart as the internal spring leap out over your shoulder & onto the garage floor, never to be seen again

The plunger can get coated in all sorts of crap which causes it to stick so a good clean will sort it out and it only takes a few minutes

You can buy the unit new from any Unipart or Rover dealer but they cost about £80.00!!
