  1. That explains why Porsche 911 are so expensive, it´s the tape on the rear arches...
  2. Matt, just heard good things about QED. Many QED racing-engines running in GB as far as I know. But 218bhp should not be problem ´cause this is still a very modest grade of tuning the XE. Trouble free running engines with more than 230bhp are quite common. The only alternative to QED might be Steve Broughton Developments at www.sbdev.co.uk. Very helpfull people who also seem to know about XE.
  3. Thanks Nick & Roger, sounds very reasonable. Good that you mentioned the new cams ´cause there are new cams in there. So I guess I have to be even more carefull. Thanks a lot guys, isn´t the net wonderful ? Question in the morning, answer in the evening. I love it...
  4. Talking about dry-sumps, what´s the right way to fill a dry-sump-system (external tank) with oil after installation ? Should all the oil be given into the tank or into the engine itself via cam-cover ? Or maybe 50:50 ? Is it wise to turn the engine some seconds without ignition to get some oil into the hoses and the pump ? Please help, I´m stupid ! (7 is 2.0 Vx, external tank and Pace-pump, SBD-kit)
  5. Mike, god of the XE-lump, please let me have it, too, or did you already give it to the low-flying-ed ? Might be worth the one year free membership ! My fax 0049-241-22709. Thanks a lot in advance !

    Petty strut

It is. Just did with my car. Follow exactly the above instruction and nothing will go wrong.
  7. Oh yes, I just forgot: don´t sell it to Mark Giles. He´s a maniac, he pushes Porsche GT3 from the track with his "small" crossflow. I don´t want to think about what he would do with such huge amounts of power...
  8. Pictures, gareth, we want pictures !!! Most of us will grab them and hurry for the toilette but maybe one of us has enough money to spare and will buy your gorgeous car. Pictures !
  9. Hm Garz, sounds interesting your XE. Got any photos of it or the engine ? Who buildt the engine for you ?
  10. I also had always water-temp around 90 C which looked little too high for me and I already do own the alloy radiator. I ordered now a 13row oil cooler even if I was recommended a 16row for that engine. But as I also fitted an extrenal dry-sump I think 13 rows will do. Hopefully.... I´ll let you know as soon as the 7 is barking again.
  11. Superlight R wheels are split-rim wheels (two pieces), 6.5" front and 8.5" back, normally fitted with AVON ACB10 tires, very sticky but you have to get used to them. Oh, and they don´t last very long. See some Superlight R´s on the Caterham website. Cheers !
  12. Alex, I fitted the Superlight R wheels inc. AVON ACB 10 onto my HPC without changing any geometries at first and believe it or not it did not (!) understeer anymore which was main-problem at first. I´m still trying different set-ups but don´t worry about the R-type wheels, they´re fine ! (exept the price, but that´s what Image is for).
  13. I´m also thinking about fitting an oil-cooler to my Vauxhall 16V lump. I think the most important fact is the oil temperature and especially where you get the signal from. Place it behind the cooler ? Or in front ? Or at the dry-sump-tank ? All these places will give you different readings, promised. My VR6 (crap, I know...) reaches often oil-temperatures of 110C and little more during heavy use on the german autobahn. And it doesn´t seem to care about it and, hey, it´s a mass-production car so VW should know if it´s o.k. or not. So 100-110C should be o.k. on heavy use but should not exeed this temp.
  14. My engine-tuner just told me that it would be wise to install an oil-cooler with about 13-16 rows for my 220bhp 16 valve XE. Anyone experienced in that ? Is it better to install it behind or in front of the alloy radiator (hot air flow). Positioned in front it´ll raise the water-temp and installed behind it might not receive sufficient cool air. What do you think, guys ?

    R500 Exhaust

Yep, I meant "wishes" not "whises". And thw R500 got stuck on the second day of use on the Ring. They said "engine problems"... but it looked little like "blown up".

    R500 Exhaust

Yep, just forgot it: The R500 I saw at the Ring was heavily used (abused?) by Hyperion Motorsport and was registered "CINCE". If anyone whises photos, let me know, got them beside me. Schneiderwind@T-Online.de

    R500 Exhaust

I still know this problem from my "biked" times. You can buy the finest carbon-silencer there is on the market and it will still get some burn-marks after some time. I think the one of the R500 is a repackable one, so you have to check it sometimes and fill it up again with new "wool" (don´t know the english word for this stuff)so that it won´t burn so fast. I love the look of the carbon-silencer but I think for hard use, a stainless steel one would be more proper.

    R500 Exhaust

Might not be the right topic for my statement but yesterday I saw a Superlight R500 at the Nurburgring which had burned his nice carbon silencer a little bit. There were large black burnings (front & rear end) on the silencer. So go easy and let them cool off properly...
  19. Does anyone know something about the ITG foam filter used at the JPE engine ? It fits very neat into the slot of the cut-out of the engine cover. Is it a special Caterham-part made to measurement for them ? I want to fit this filter onto my carbed XE 16V. Any suggestions ?
  20. Could not find any books, too. Seems rediculous to me ! I collected any printed paper about this engine I could find: QED & SBD catalogs, plus artciles from CCC and a repair book, printed in Germany. Last one contains good informations about repairing and checking valves, head, oil-pump etc. Should you find any other good book please let us know.
