  1. If anyone is interested in buying a hood bag, I would direct you to "Mike Scott's Caterham Clearout - Hoods etc" (on this page) and urge you to buy the hood bag advertised there. The proceeds for this  are for a much worthier cause (The Brain Tumour Society) than mine (which is me).

I believe Mike's is now sold but mine is still available.

  2. The aforementioned 19th Edition states in the Caterham Section preamble (Page 23) that if  the 6th digit of the chassis number is  K or C and the 10th digit (year code) is W (i.e. year1999) or before the vehicle concerned should be considered as "amateur built" and should receive a visual smoke test only.

  3. Just looked at Weale on this and he lists recommended Trumpet Lengths at 38mm for 1700SS and 1600BDR, 60mm for 1700BDR, but strangely actually states "None" for 1600 Sprint. Anyone any ideas on the latter for the 1600 Sprint (My type) and can anyone, running a 1600 sprint, confirm the lenghth of trumpet  they are using, if at all.

  4. The Type is stamped on cover plate, following "Tipo" (which in my wisdom I deduce is Italian for Type). It will take the form of DCOE40  (or 45 I guess) followed by some more figures. (e.g. 34 or 35 as in my case).

This was the reason for my initial interest as this Type, fitted to my '92 Factory CKD 1600 Crossflow, seems to vary from the "usual"151 (if anything can be regarded as "usual" in Caterham production). I wondered if Caterham had got hold of a batch of carbs which were not their ususal spec and fitted these to a batch of Sevens at one time. (No Factory Records exist, nor would I expect them to,  to detail this, as checked with Martin Phipps), My Carbs perform fine, presumably being fitted with the requisite jets for Caterham application, as noted above would be done to the 151s

  5. There appear to have been a number of different Weber 40 DCOE types fitted to Sevens over the years, with perhaps the most common being the 151. I am trying to ascertain if there is an "standardisation" or "development" in relation to this and what actual types were fitted.

What have people got fitted or has anyone replaced worn out carbs with a particular type.

I am particularly interested in the types fitted to the various Crossflow engines

  6. Thanks - my mistake,  I was only aware of the Ford set initially.

(I suspect the “second” set maybe Ford fitment as well - the Item description states they were a spare set for a Westfield, I’m no expert but I think they were built using Ford hubs).

  7. Yes, should have said the carbs are fitted with K&Ns which are 80mm depth. i was aware there was a balance between theoretically better torque at lower revs and "increased" performance at higher revs, depending on the length. I was after a balance between the 2 parameters so maybe go for something like 30mm length as the mid point, giving the required end plate clearance.
