  1. There is a chapter about the TMC in 'Flying on 4 wheels', which is a biography of Frank Costin, by Dennis Ortenburger.

Sounds like it was quite a succesful racer:

"The TMC Costin made its debut at Mondello Park oN September 10th 1983. John Keaney, Irish Sports car champion drove the car to first in class"

  2. Caterham 7 1700 Supersprint, built in 2000:

  3. '1 they can only be fitted one way you cannot invert .adjust valve to bottom.'

I have steel AVO/Freestyle shocks fitted with the adjust valve at the top. Now I am worried. Why can they not be mounted this way?

    Thanks

    🤔

  4. Roger King does some copper exhaust gaskets which should last a lot longer and can be used again after taking the exhaust off the head.

There is only one mounting for this type of exhaust near the tailpipe (on my car anyway).

  5. I have just rebuilt my 1700 x flow, which apart from forged pistons with 10.5:1 cr is in in fairly standard spec.

The previous owner of this engine upgraded it from a 1600, but I have noticed that it still has 30 mm chokes fitted.

When it is run in I intend to go for a rolling road session to get it properly set up. All the information I have indicates I should be running 32 mm chokes.

In the period before the rr sesion I want to make sure I am running safe jetting.

    The current set up is:

    main jet 120

    Air corrector 165

    Emulsion Tube F16

    Idle 50F9

    Choke 30 mm

From Dave Andrews web site the indication is that I would need to go to 130 main jets.

Can anybody tell me what jetting they are running on their 1700 x-flow so that I can be in the right ball park if I fit 32 mm chokes.

    Thanks

    Graham

  6. Thanks guys.

I have subsequently checked the oil level in the diff, and yes I seem to have overfilled it, probably because I filled it with the rear of the car high on axle stands.

I'll get myself a stock of bushes as well.

  7. My self built live axle car has covered about 250 miles from new. A 'clonking' sound has started from the rear on pulling away.

Getting the car on axle stands I noticed some oil coming out of the diff, not sure where, and finding its way on to the 'A' frame bush. The bolt holding the 'A' frame to the axle needed about 2 turns to get it back to the 40 lb-ft torque. The other bolts on the rear suspension also needed re-tightening.

I have heard of various problems with the Ital axle, is it normal for the diff to leak some oil? And is it normal to have to tighten the suspension bolts so soon after assembly from new components? I have only used the car on the road so far and it has had a post build check at Caterham where they presumably checked the torque of the suspenion bolts.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

  8. Just got my crossflow on the road, built from a starter kit.

Problem is my right foot gets caught under the brake pedal. Any tips on increasing the distance between throttle and brake pedals or do I have to get myself some racing boots. I don't have enormous feet (size 9 1/2)

    Thanks

  9. The Puma is definitely not a hairdresser's car. I am on my second, it has a great engine and super handling.

I also own a Caterham (live axle x-flow).

There may not be many hairdressers on Blatchat , but there may be a few other Puma drivers.
