  1. They vary depending on who built the engine. The Caterham ones were standard Ford cast items and then lightened. I am not sure of the weight but its heavier than the Burtons steel versions. I have a Burtons steel version of 5.2 kg (I think) which is perfect for normal road use and is also strong for high revs. The next step is for an engine builder to machine slots in these to reduce to something like 4kg but not really necessary for the road.
  2. I had a VVC Elise, model 111s. Very good engine, nice level of performance, good fuel economy etc etc. The 111s also had different gear ratios from the non VVC. Only problem was annoying reliability issues due to poor build at the factory all of which will have been rectified on a well maintained car (mine was new so I had to sort them out). My old 87 XFlow 7 has survived alongside all of the other more modern cars I have had. Much more satisfying in the end.
  3. It wont make any noticable difference other than they look fantastic, but you wont see them! I found that the roller rockers wear (on 2 sets) and so any less wear in the valve guides has been replaced by a new problem. Best to fit an uprated rocker assembly of the original design which is available from Burtons or others. I have gone back to this set up on 170 bhp X Flow. I hope that helps. George
  4. Just had my car checked and set up on the rolling road to eliminate a misfire on twin Webber 45s on a recently improved crossflow and thought the contact details might be of use to others. Frost Motor Services in Ipswich 01473 250 996, contact Rindy carried out the work. They were recomended by Scholar engines. They were very helpfull, reasonably priced and they sorted the problem. The car now runs superbly with fantastic torque so the engine upgrade is now complete.
