  1. just had a chat with a guy at CC, he says that most R300's are leaving the factory without the Dry Sump kit, he suggets that the anti-cav on an R300 is quite adequate, but would be essential on 400's and 500's due to the engines being more stressed. So, that's saved me a grand then !!
  2. Appollo and Anti-Cav. are the same thing with regard tyres, I imagine I will only run on the Avon CR500's. I like to get to know my cars on track running on road tyres, this way, I feel as though I learn more about the limits of the car for on-road driving. If no R300 engines have blown, then I suppose this answers some of my questions. I suppose I should try and get an honest answer from CC (but they will no doubt try to sell me one!)
  3. thanks, this really helps The reason I ask is because the cost of the dry sump kit on an R300 is nearly putting the overall cost too high for me to purchase. The R300 comes with an anti-cav system, but does it come with an Apollo tank? I understand that for peace of mind, I should push the boat out and get the dry sump system, but how effective is the standard setup on an R300 of preventing engine damage? I imagine I will be doing about 6 or 7 track days a year with the R300 (tops), but then again, I am not the fastest driver, so I cannot work out if I really really need a dry sump, then after the 1st 2 years is over, I will probably trade to an R400. Why does a dry sump kit not come as standard on an R300? How many R300's have lost their engine because they do not have a dry sump kit? (either on or off track) How long is the warranty on an R300 and what would Caterham do if the engine failed either on or off track (due to oil surge related problems)? Sorry to get picky about this, but the £1k for the dry sump is pushing my budget big time. Cheers, franky
  4. can someone tell me in simple ludite english what these systems do and how they interact?
  5. Steve, the R300 and R400 come as standard with the 15" wheels
  6. I presume if I buy these as an upgrade after the build, I will not get them at the option price of £725?
  7. what are the benefits of the 13" Magnesium wheels? I know they are alot lighter than the 15" alloys, but how does this transpose itself to performance / handling? I also presume the ride will be slightly better with bigger side walls? Are the rear tyres wider or anything like that?
  8. thanks, interesting regarding the resale.... I've done a search, but not been able to work out if the SPA gauges come in the correct combinations? anyone got any good pictures on stack and non-stack dash? Edited by - frankyknuckles on 30 Sep 2003 13:03:57
  9. I'm still looking through the spec for an R300. What does the stack instrumentation give you over stock? I'm actually thinking of having a normal dash, but changing the dials to white ones (revs and mph) and changing the others to the SPA digital combo gauges (or whote analogue). But I can't remember what dials come as stock? Oil Pressure, Oil Temp, Ameter? thanks f
  10. I considered a full cage and I saw two different version in the showroom, the full race cage is my prefered choice, but means no windscreen or roof, the other cage was with a windscreen, this looked alot better and you could still put the roof up if you had to. For those moments when youi do get caught in the rain, I would like the option of putting the roof up
  11. oh ! 😬 so, when is the next track day then and can I blag a ride
  12. Quote - LSDs are noisy and can make a car difficult to drive on the limit for a novice, but are very handy. I've always thought that LSD's are essential for powerful cars, people raved after them on the new Civic Type R that does not have one as standard, the S2000 is another more appropriate example of a car that needs and LSD. Do the same principles apply to the 7 or are the dynamics of the car that different?
  13. pussycat tells me that you lot are at Silverstone on Octoner 25th, would you mind if I come along and blag some passenger rides (as a potential new owner) ? Thanks f
  14. I'm looking at specing a new R300 self build and I plan to do lots of track days. My previous car is a Honda S2000, so I have grabbed the basic knowledge of rear wheel drive. How essential are the following options? dry sump (this is £1200 !! ) LSD (this is very important on a 7 I would imagine?) Battery isolation switch I will also be specing the FIA roll bar winscreen and weather equipment heater side arm rests Also, one one of the cars in the showroom, there was a side wheel intrusion protection bar, (black bar covering the bodywork where the drivers sits, dissapearing under the body before rear wheel arch. This was only fitted to the drivers side, are these common? Thanks Franky Edited by - frankyknuckles on 29 Sep 2003 09:16:00
