  1. Just finished working on the rear end.

What was very strange was that even after torqueing up the nut last time it had loosened significantly.

So now fitted new nylon nuts, applied loctite 243 and torqued up to top limit155.

The only slight worry is that the new nylon nuts are thicker than the old ones so the nylon ring is not completely down the thread. I hope the Loctite compensates for that. I have scratched a mark on shaft end to give an indication if nut moves.

  2. You are 1 week too late with your question See My Post I had my sender on the bench last weekend and checked the sender was working by testing the changing resistance with position. Sorry I did not not the values. On my crossflow it was very easy to get the sender out, no need to empty the tank.
  3. Here is a summary of this mornings problem solving activities:

1 Upside down under the dash to try to see if anything is loose. Nothing looked out of place but solved another problem. There is a large plastic cylindrical tube that the harness goes into, it was rattling about behind the wiper motor, moved it and tie wrapped, annoying rattle from behind the dash now quiet. *wink*

2 Removed boot floor to get access to the top of the tank

3 Took the terminals off the sender unit and shorted them together - Fuel Gauge goes to the full condition: Conclusion Fuel gauge OK *smile*

4 Removed the sender unit from the tank and tested the resistance with multimeter: reading goes up and down consistant with the position of the arm: Conclusion Sender Unit OK *smile*

5 So if gauge and sender are ok unless it is an intermittent problem in the harness it should work

6 Put it all back together and it worked, but while screwing down the boot floor it stopped working. so lifted the boot floor again

7 on the female spade connectors I pinched closed the terminals a fraction. This appears to be the root cause of the problem as I put it all back together, went for a blat and all works OK *smile*

    Problem Solved *wavey*

  4. Checkink over the car I found that the big nut on the end of the right hand side 1/2 shaft was loose to the point of significant play on the wheel. I torqued it up and the play disappeared. Is there a better way to ensure that the nut does not work loose again?
  5. The biggest issue is getting the heat out of the footwell. One of the guys here fitted a boat deck vent on his door flap. It looks a bit odd but shovels air into the cabin. If you are not in a rainy climate you could try something at the front end of the footwell
  6. I am helping my sister-in-law clear out here shed.

Is anyone interested in a British Seagull Outboard for spares or as a project

Serial number starts with LLS so appears to be a Century type

There is no carburettor on it, a quick look on internet suggests parts are available.

I think the carb got slung as an unknown widget when she cleared all of the junk from the shed.

It turns freely with some compression but not sure what is good/bad on one of these.

    It looks in reasonable nick

Free to anyone who will collect from Thames Ditton.

    Chris
