  1. Following my posting for a replacement gold pump it seems these are as rare as rocking horse....

My second option would be to replace with a Pace setup - does any one have a setup they would be willing to sell?  Thank you

  2. Hi Revilla, RJ

Thanks I will double check the ECU supply and earth. I cannot see anything obvious in the Emerald software that I should have altered.

No cam sensor but not configured for sequential. I will have a look around to see if there is any adjustment for the coils.

    Thank you *thumbup*

  3. After listening to all the advice, thanks to all who contributed, I obtained an EU3 cam cover, rover coil packs and HT leads from a fellow caterham owner and converted from EU2 to wasted spark with the EU3 cover and twin coil packs.

Distributor, single coil and HT leads removed. EU3 cam cover fitted along with the rover coil packs. An additional coil driver was pinned from the (early) Emerald ECU. The coil packs share a power feed. The Emerald ECU config was changed as per Oily's instructions.

Spark plugs where BCPR7ES so haven't been changed.

The engine runs well once it has been started, but, it's the starting which is now an issue. Engine turns over and does not fire until the third or fourth attempt, often there is a loud backfire as (I'm guessing) unburnt fuel catches in the exhaust!

So what have I done wrong, something to do with with the setup whilst the engine is cranking? As I say the engine runs well once it catches.

K series 1.8k. Supersport cams. QED throttle bodies. Emerald ECU (early version).

    Any/all advice welcomed

    Thank you

    Chris

  4. Thanks all this very helpful! Converting to EU3 requires replacement cam cover but a "stand alone" coil pack would work with the current cover, so I think I will look to a standalone coil pack (Dave - hear what you are saying about water ingress though).

Question is which standalone coil pack?

  5. Thanks, seems like a sensible way to go. From what I can see I need the two coils packs and two additional HT leads which sit in place of the current HT leads. Delete distributor and single coil. New coil packs then take signals from ECU.

Other than any reconfiguration with the Emerald is it that straight forward?

    Advice gratefully received.

    Thank you*thumbup*

  6. I ran a set up from Think which included a sandwich plate with mechanical oil temperature and pressure gauge. I can take some photos if you want as the bits are off the car as moving to digital dash with solid state senders.

    Thanks

    Chris

  7. Green with yellow stripe, M3 east bound between junctions 5 and 4a at around 8.30am with hood up. I was west bound in the tin top, lovely day but a little chilly first thing, outside temp was around 8 degrees according to the tin top.

Hope you had a good day.

  8. Hi alan7,This did cross my mind although I did check the lead for continuity but definitely no harm in trying an alternative.

I was concerned the error message was an emerald default advising the ecu is malfunctioning.

Anyone in the Woking area with an emerald lead who would not mind me visiting them for 5 minutes to check *smile*

If it is the lead I can then source a replacement

    Thanks

    Chris

  9. Early version of Emerald ECU (M3D) will not stay connected to my laptop.

I have the correct Emerald software (later versions detect an earlier ECU and give appropriate error message) and have previously connected the laptop to read/write maps (.fig type) I offered a copy of my map to a fellow BC'er but when trying to connect to download from the ECU I get the following message in the bottom right hand corner of the Emerald software opening window

    Status - ECU connected

    then (in red)

    Status - No ECU link

above messages alternate in a random pattern and the laptop cannot read the map ☹️

I have also inspected and tested the connection lead which appers to be OK and the 7 runs fine.

    Any ideas anyone?

    Thanks

    Chris

  10. Hi Skydragon *wavey*

I did the drill small hole in the seal and use a self tapper to pull the seal out method. I only used one self tapper and the seal came out very easily. If you remove the seal this way be careful drilling the hole in the seal as it is soft and you do not want to mark the head.
