  1. That's rather worrying! I clearly need to give my neighbours a wide berth.
  2. Yes, I'm half expecting my gearbox to now be left behind me when I set off. I'm hoping it's a random thingamibob that's fallen off something completely unrelated to my car. You'll have to excuse my paranoia but I've just jumped ship from Porsche ownership and years of expecting my engine to give out at any second!
  3. I was fitting a few replacement bits and pieces to my 420R earlier today when I saw this lying on the ground near the front wheels/nose cone. Anyone recognise it? As I didn't build the car myself and not particulary savvy on the spanner front I was wondering if it's come from my car or just a random piece of rubbish.
  4. My 420 runs around 85-100. In traffic it stays at 105 when the fan keeps it there.
  5. Yes, I left the springs in place. The new fasteners in the link are an exact size match so you just drill out the old rivets and rivet in the new wing-nut version. I tested them this morning and it so much easier to remove the nose cone. I had the lower fasteners undone in seconds. It still took a little while to locate the new Dzus screws into the springs but at least I wasn't on my back doing it!
  6. I've just drilled out the old fasteners and installed these. Thanks Roger for the link. This is going to save me scrabbling around on my back every time I need to check the dry sump tank level. I was a little nervous riveting into glass fibre but I used some washers to spread the load a bit. It seemed to work fine.
  7. Maybe that's the simple answer for me then. It would be nice not to have to hurriedly throw myself onto the ground, squinting into the darkness trying to locate the bottom screws so I can check my oil level.
  8. Great idea! I'd be up for one of those.
  9. Fantastic! Thanks for that. I'll be ordering a couple now. My 420R is kept in a residential garage in London and I'm always rather nervous about leaving my car thrumming away while I faff around on my back with a screwdriver trying remove the nose cone in order to check the oil level. These will make life a lot simpler.
  10. They look like a perfect solution, especially for those with a dry sump. Do you know how they're listed? I can't find them on their website.
  11. I fitted a set of these last weekend and I have to say they are fantastically stable, not to mention beautifully made as well. I had windscreen mounted ones before which were worse than useless. These have transformed the driving experience. I really do recommend them.
  12. Spotted just outside St Albans Saturday morning. I was in the silver/orange 420R. I'm guessing you were on your way back from a track.
  13. Thanks for the responses. I've started tackling the underside with ACF50. I'll get onto the grit traps soon.
  14. I've heard much spoken about these infamous grit traps. Where/what are they?
  15. Does anyone know of any decent videos of all the key areas to protect, whatever the chosen products? I'm new to Seven ownership and I'd like to sort this before the winter.
  16. These look really interesting. As someone who has recently taken delivery of a 2018 420R with terrible windscreen mounted mirrors I'm really interested in these. My doors aren't drilled so could I order these with a 'generic' measurement for the lower hole?
  17. It's a 2018 S3 and, yes, it's the double diagonal bars. One bolt just about came out with around 0.5mm to spare but the other side was about 0.5mm longer and had to be cut off at the head. Clearly the diagonal bars are not symmetrical. Luckily the replacement bolt fits perfectly with loads of thread inside the boss, only about 3mm less than the original one. Caterham are out of stock of the 7/16 1-3/4 UNF bolts.
  18. I tested the bolt this afternoon and there will be at least 1-1/3 inch (I hate imperial!) into the boss, taking into account the spacer to allow harness rotation. It felt incredibly sturdy.
  19. Hi everyone, I've recently bought a lovely 420R which I'm slowly fettling and prepping for the spring weather. I've bought a set of TRS 4-point harnesses which I'm going to fit as the Caterham ones have now gone past their sell-by date. I've had to chop off one of the shoulder strap bolts as the track day roll bar was in the way. I've ordered a new 7/16 UNF bolt but have gone for a 1-1/2 length instead of the standard 1-3/4 length to avoid having to remove the roll bar. What are your thoughts on this? Will safety be seriously compromised? Another option would be to go for a 2-inch bolt and cut it down to size; the standard 1-3/4 bolt was fractionally too long to take out but I could chop a 2-inch to just under 1-3/4 but longer than the 1-1/2 I've bought.
