  1. Decided to bite the bullet and ordered a set of 6 inch wide rims! At least I will have the option of using the 205 Toyos on the rear and will have a spare set of wheels if other options become available for the 8" rims (slicks?)
  2. I've just changed my fluid to Motul RBF600, as the dry boiling temp is a lot higher than a lot of the others (313°C), so ideal for on track and it doesn't cost too much compared with other high performance fluids! Time will tell if it makes any difference, but apparently one downside is that it may need changing more frequently, as its more hygroscopic compared to standard fluids?
  3. Like many people, I am likely to be making the switch to Toyo R888R's soon (from Avons), however I've done a lot of searching and can't seem to find a definitive answer on the correct sizing options for these to suit 8 inch rear and 6 inch front set ups on 13" rims? Many threads comment on Toyo R888R's only being available in 185/60/13 and 205/60/13 in the same profile, however Toyo and general recommendation says that 205 width is not suitable for 8 inch rims (should ideally be 215 to 235). Toyo do 225/45/13 which would suit the rears but are obviously lower profile than the front 185/60/13....so would this combination be OK and if so I guess the car would need to be flat floored/suspension set up again? The easiest option would be just to use the 205 on the rears but Im a bit concerned if these are not technically recommended! I use my car for road and track days and like the current handling characteristics, so want to be sure I'm switching to the best tyre combination, especially if it means additional suspension set up! Any advice from anyone that has made this switch, as I guess this will be something that comes up increasingly as the supply of Avons dry up?
  4. Does anyone have a Petty Strut (ideally with fittings) they want to sell? Needs to suit a metric S3 with twin diagonal FIA roll bar.
  5. I heard that Harpic 10x Power cleaner has good results (Hydrochloric Acid), but due to being more aggressive and designed to cling to toilet bowls, you just have to make sure everything is thoroughly rinsed to avoid any left over continuing to eat away at the stainless. Citric acid is apparently also used for passivation of Stainless steel, so will be interesting to see if using this also helps it to stay tarnish free for longer?
  6. Not sure if this has been covered before, but I wanted to share my experience with this afternoon's activity..... tidy up my headers, which were tarnished. Tried using metal polish but that wasnt touching it, so decided to use a 15% concentrated solution of citric acid and let it soak for a while and then scrubed using fine wet and dry and wire wool (rinsing thoroughly with fresh water afterwards). This method worked really well, removing the tarnish without too much elbow grease! This is the result after about an hours work! Not after a concours standard polished look, just a tidy up, so more than happy with how it turned out!
  7. Thanks SLR, I wondered if that was the case, but wanted some reassurance before ordering! I like the Carbon Vinyl effect, but can't say it's £300 worth of an upgrade!!
  8. I got my custom half hood from Softbits and am really pleased with it the only issue is that it took nearly 5 months to arrive!! The Tonneau is made to order too so don't fancy the wait as the Caterham ones are in stock.
  9. Hi All, Looking at a Tonneau cover for my S3 R400D with Tillet seats. Caterham list two possible options, but the later is quite a bit more expensive, is Carbon Vinyl really worth £300 more or is the design or seat pocket dimensions different between the two?...just want to make sure it will fit! 1. TONNEAU COVER DE DION RACE SEATS S3 https://caterhamparts.co.uk/tonneau-covers/6333-tonneau-cover-de-dion-race-seats-s3.html 2.TONNEAU COVER CARBON COMPOSITE SEATS https://caterhamparts.co.uk/tonneau-covers/6266-tonneau-cover-carbon-composite-seats.html
  10. Looking to protect the underbody of my seven, and like the look of Lanoguard as it looks easy to apply and drys clear. They do a couple of kits, so interested to hear if anyone has used their "Injector Kit" for use in the grot traps etc? This will be the first time I've done this, so also keen to get any tips/advice on how you actually go about doing this and get between the skins and inner chassis?
  11. In need of some fitted luggage for my S3, after the Soft Bits RE-Bag or equivalent style bags if anyone has one they no longer use and would like to part with?
  12. After my track day at Thruxton wearing out my nearside front more than the others, I'm after a part worn Avon ZZS 185/55 R13 if anyone has one (or two) spare?
  13. Yeah the black lock ring. I've got a tool specifically to undo it and my first thought was like yourself on how tight, it's just it was soooo tight to undo it made me wonder! I figured out that the fuel line has an area to push on the flat side of the connector which allows it to be pulled off. I didn't notice this at first, as a lot of these connector types have different coloured plastic on the area that needs to be pushed, while others need special pliers to remove.
  14. Panic over....sorted it! Now that the new fuel pump is on order, does anyone have any idea on the recommended torque when tightening the lock ring back up...it seemed stupidly tight trying to get it undone??
  15. Hi All, More than a little frustrated right now! Trying to remove the fuel pump on my R400D and the plastic fuel line into the sender snaps off!! It looks like you need some special pliers to remove the fuel line so I can get the snapped part out but there seems a number of different styles of pliers available? Anyone know which type I need to remove this sort of connector please?....
  16. Does anyone know where just the mirror glass for a standard door mirror can be sourced from (assuming this can even be done)? I know the mirrors are the same as Talbot Sunbeam ones but the whole mirror assembly is £60 (Caterham are £80!) and I only really need the glass.
  17. Passed without a problem 88db (he only asked me to rev to 4500rpm!)...reckon they were exercising some discretion though as there were a few other cars that sounded a lot louder that still got through. Having said that an Aston V8 got black flagged for being too loud once on track!
  18. Well I've just tested it using a phone app, which I tested for accuracy at work (I work in the Audio industry)...but appreciate this is still only indicative. 0.5m at 45 degrees at 5800rpm is coming out between 87-88db, so close but near enough that it's worth giving it a go at Thruxton tomorrow....fingers crossed!!
  19. Booked a track day at Thruxton and noticed their noise limit is really low (90db static). I have a R400D with rear exit exhaust so should be quieter than the usual side exit, but I can't find any definitive answer on whether this will still likely be quiet enough? Does anyone have any experience with running their 7's at Thruxton or know the sort of db levels an R400D with rear exhaust puts out?
  20. I wish they had compared lap times in the article. I know it's not all about track time and the independent suspension is likely to be a lot more compliant on the road. Would have just been interesting to see what (if any) difference the independent vs De Dion setups had on lap times?
  21. I went for the black Wisamic units in the end. Pleased how they look, think it gives the front end a more modern look to it!
  22. Ah, great I want them to be MOT compliant and looks like the ones I've been looking at are the Wisamic ones. Good to hear that others have used them and they are OK...can't belive they are nearly 5 times less expensive than the genuine Caterham ones!
  23. Evening All! Does anyone have any experience with fitting the cheaper LED headlights to their Seven that are available? They are A LOT cheaper than the genuine ones, which makes me dubious over their quality/performance, so wondered if anyone has any experience using them!
  24. Hi All, After a set of half doors, ideally ones with the arm tunnel/cut out, failing that, possibly some Carbon Vinyl ones? Thanks Dan
