  1. Car is currently with Caterham cars to fix another problem while I am on holiday. However, I will try masking the radiator when I get back However, I did ask if my car has a thermostat and did ask if one can be retrofitted if not. Still not totally clear how I can easily check if it already has one though
  2. Thanks, I have spoken to PGM and I will probably get this done when my warranty with CC expires but doing it sooner would obviously invalidate my warranty. In the mean time I will try covering a portion of the radiator and will ask CC about the thermostat, I think that is a minimum requirement.
  3. I did speak to CC, their response was that they had looked into this and that they felt that the cooling issue would have 'no impact on longevity' and therefore they would not take any action. Perhaps my 2 lambda sensors in 4 weeks suggest different.
  4. Mine is a 620s and yes, the first 's' built so not sure if it will have a thermostat or not, possibly it will if this was an 'r' problem? Any way to easily tell?
  5. Thinking now, I suspect that you are right, either the poppers are too far forward or the wiper mechanism too far back. I will try to loosen both (poppers should be easy, not sure how to loosen the wiper mechanism) and push them. I am not with my car right now but from your photo, my poppers seem to sit much further back as your carbon that supports the central mirror is almost all the way back whereas there is a good centimetre or more gap for mine! (clearly not a small adjustment though)
  6. My 620s runs at 90 if it's hot weather and I'm driving around normally BUT if I head onto the motorway it drops right down to between 50 abs 60, especially as I pull off the motorway (then it drops right down). Also in the morning when it's not as hot it is very hard to warm up, it generally sits just below 60. I think long term I will go down the PGM solution but this will obviously invalidate my warranty so I will wait until that has expired. I would be really interested though if the coke could be caused by the water or just running rich, the Caterham cars engineer told me it was coked up.
  7. How do you do it? I am guessing silver foil over front and back, maybe the top third as heat rises? I did read the old Low Flying article about the PGM approach but I don't think it explained how he covered the radiator at first.
  8. I am away at the moment so had to cancel my track day due to the rattling noise, I suspect it's something in the gearbox otherwise it would happen in other gears. It is back to Caterham on Monday. I could return the car and ask for a different one but I could have another set of problems with that. I love the 620, once the Caterham warranty expires I may go to PGM and have their upgrade. In the mean time I will try covering a part of the radiator, any recommendations on which bit to change and how, silver foil?
  9. I suspect that running cold abs therefore rich is the cause. Hopefully the new map will help. Caterham might get fed up with getting the car back every 4 weeks for a replacement lambda sensor, especially as they told me that it doesn't affect the engine's longevity. To be fair to Caterham cars, they have been absolutely fantastic and jumped on every problem immediately and fixed it while I wait. I can't fault them on that, excellent after sales service.
  10. Mine is definitely a CC part, it's got their sticker underneath with the part number etc. I have removed the wiper blades but not the mechanism below. Ugh, filing carbon fibre is not great for the lungs
  11. It turned out to be the lambda sensor that needed to be replaced (which is slightly worrying because it was only replaced 3/4 weeks ago, although I have driven ab0ut 1,000 miles!). They said that it was really coked up so I don't know if that was caused by rain or just use. They also said that they updated the mapping as this should help stop the problem going forward. Maybe I will start carrying a spare lambda sensor with me in the boot.
  12. The problem I had fixed was the lambda sensor. I don't think it can be the exhaust or handbrake cable as it only really happens in second. It is very noisy, almost like there something sticking out and catching something else as the engine/gearbox/diff rotates.
  13. This just started while driving home from Gatwick after having another problem fixed. Sitting in traffic so moving very slowly and all of a sudden whenever I shift into second gear I get a loud rattling as if something is loose and repeatedly knocking from the back of the car, possibly the diff but when moving very slowly it almost seems to move forward. It sounds like an old-fashioned football rattle, very loud. Supposed to have a track day Monday, not looking promising. EDIT: Maybe there is a hint of this in other gears but not totally sure.
  14. I bought a Caterham aeroscreen but I have a gap between the bottom of the screen and the car caused by the position of the wipers 'thingy'. Has anyone else had this issue and found a solution? it occurs to me that I could remove the wiper assembly but I want to be able to switch easily between windscreen and aeroscreen. I also thought I might be able to buy or 3D print a smaller black plastic block tor the wipers to sit on (Zoe maybe cut a small section out of the plastic). Another option could be to cut or file a small section of the carbonfibre away to make a small semi-circular cut out for them. That feels the best option but I haven't ever tried filing carbon fibre.
  15. I have to figure out how to get at them first, I had a look earlier and it didn't seem obvious. Needless to say, I haven't built a Caterham!
  16. It was insanely wet, like a tropical storm, good job I only had the aeroscreen on! It worked better after a while but then I had the problem intermittently all the way home until it stalled about 10 mins from home. Then after a restart worked absolutely flawlessly which is Also odd.
  17. I was caught in a tropical style downpour today whilst stuck in traffic. The Caterham really didn't like it and was not running smoothly after a short while, seemed to be misfiring and a bad smell. I managed to bunny hop to a fuel station and hide under their roof. It seemed tO be okay after drying out but then I had the same problem again after the rain stopped but with very wet roads. I'm currently waiting for it to dry out a second time, fingers crossed it will be okay now the sun is out. However, should i by worried that it's done some damage? Any thoughts on the cause so I can avoid this happening again if caught in the rain?
  18. I have a 620s SV and I want an Aeroscreen showercap or something similar if anyone has one?
  19. I've always wanted one of these, not sure if I can get a fourth car passed my wife though.
  20. All booked up and looking forward to it!
  21. Ah, not you then unless I couldn't see properly through my very shaky rear view mirror. We were in a grey 620swig a ride stripe up the middle.
  22. You followed me up out of Westerham and gave a wave as I turned off into my road. Nice to see another Caterham so nearby! I was on my way home from Silverstone.
  23. Exactly as you mention, clattering as I lift off the throttle and an almost grindy noise but as mentioned it is supposed to be new so I am not particularly worried, just surprised at the noise. Also there is a whine that actually sounds like a siren or warning alarm at higher speeds. At first I constantly thought my indicators were on, it sounds a bit like a lorry's reverse warning tone.
  24. I had a new diff fitted to my 620s when I bought it from Caterham Cars (2015 reg) and even though it's new it is also really noisy alrho8gh mainly when I easy off the throttle rather than under acceleration.
  25. Sadly I was with my family in a black Merc 4x4 not my Caterham, we spent a few days in the area. You followed us for quite some way.
