  1. Evening All Has anyone got, or know where I can get, some 9.25 inch rear wings either new or used but in good condition? Any ideas or leads would be gratefully received. Cheers Steve
  2. Hi everyone. Does anyone have any experience of a rolling road not too far away from Retford, North Notts. I've got a 1700 crossflow with dellortos that needs someone with appropriate experience and skills to get the best out of it. My research so far has brought up a couple of names....Peter Burgess in Alfreton and Noble Motorsports in Chesterfield. Any thoughts would be appreciated. TYIA
  3. Thanks for for the advice. You're all right in what you're saying. Am I correct in saying that I can decide where I take the car for repairs just in case the insurers suggest anywhere other than Arch?
  4. I thought Arch would be the go to people. Only potential issue is that the person that hit me doesn't want to go through insurance....surprise, surprise.
  5. Evening everyone As the subject suggests, I find myself needing the skills of a bodyshop familiar with a Caterham 7 chassis and bodywork following a coming together this evening. I think I got off lightly considering the fact that I got rear ended by a Range Rover that appeared in my rear view mirror like a killer whale about to swallow a baby seal! Luckily, my procrastination with regards to a spare wheel delete prevented total devastation but nevertheless, the impact bent the carrier and also the rear most perimeter top tube of the boot. It's a testament to our cars that a 2.8 ton Chelsea tractor did such a seemingly small amount of damage. However, I want to get the car checked out properly and would appreciate any first hand experiences with suitably qualified artisans. Thanks in anticipation Steve
  6. Afternoon All Ref: 1998 1700 xflow, 150 bhp, lightened flywheel, type 9 gearbox and De Dion A few days ago I tried posting on here only to discover that there's an issue with android on this forum. My missive went into great length about what had happened and asked for any thoughts on potential problems. However, things have moved on somewhat. The last blat of 2021 left me with a knocking noise that increased with road speed but wasn't apparent below 10mph. The car was put up on axle stands and started, put into gear and listened to....the loudest knocking seemed to be coming from the gearbox. That's me done for the season passed through my mind with me tucking the car up for winter and looking forwards to a spring engine and box out session in warmer times. Subsequent purchase of an engine crane (available to borrow if you're in the same boat and can fetch it), enabled swift extraction of engine and box with the offending item being taken to a renowned gear chap the next day. He gave it the once over and to my surprise stated that "there's nowt wrong with this, Lad". Now, I trust his judgement as he's a very clever chap who could have said the type 9 box is made of cheese but i can upgrade it for you at great cost...he didn't. He did, however, make various suggestions that included all of the drive train and associated mounts. I have experienced similar noises in other cars, mostly front wheel drive, that turned out to be cv joints. So, I have a few questions to throw out there:- Has anybody had a similar experience and if so what was the solution? Can a worn out driveshaft / cv cause an apparent noise at the gearbox? The nearside cv joint was significantly warmer - not hot - than the offside. Is this significant?I have bought new driveshafts from Caterham that seem to be a little longer than the ones I took off (is this normal?), new engine and gearbox mounts and once I've got the diff off for my gearbox chap to give the once over I will fit new uj's to the prop. Have I missed anything obvious as i don't want to put it all back together for it to knock again. Your opinions would be gratefully received. Cheers, Steve
  7. Thanks chaps....I'm overwhelmed with the advice and offer of a loan rollbar. My car is de dion with a well worked 1700 xflow....being old, I'm old school....!!
  8. I've looked at FIA bars on fleabay and the mounts look different on the main tubes....did they change after a certain year or am I looking at the wrong kit?
  9. Thanks Jonathan Excuse my ignorance, and I know I'm going to seem daft for asking, but what's the assembly guide for?....and thanks for the welcome.

    Rollbars

Please bear with me if this has been covered before but this is my first post even though I first joined this group 16 years ago. My question revolves around rollbars and their eligibility with regards to track days with the club. I have read and inwardly digested the advice on what can and can't be used on our organised events but don't, as yet, know how I can make my car comply. My rollbar is bolted to a 1998 car and as such is the more vertical type without a diagonal brace. Is there a direct replacement for mine that just involves undoing bolts, dropping a new one on and bolting back up again or is this just wishful thinking? My aim is to have a go at Blyton novices this year so I need to get my finger out, stop procrastinating and get spannering! Thank you in anticipation. Steve
  11. Hi Just a few questions.....are these still available and are they painted or powder coated? Cheers Steve
