  1. thanks Stu. Looks like essential kit but I think I'll pass
  2. I am bemused. Looking at the carbon fibre porn on the Caterham Parts website I notice they sell carbon fibre nose whiskers. I'm fairly new to Caterham's but I'm pretty sure my nose is clean-shaven. what on earth are they and where do they go? Pictures of your own whiskers appreciated
  3. Cheers Mark. paid as well and address sent as PM Chris
  4. Can't help with your search but I've been looking at these on the SBFS's site (the one to fit tillets) but I have no experience of them. Do they actually work?
  5. I like that idea. Any recommendations for a combination chain lock? All of the chains I've seen on Google come with a keyed padlock and it seems a bit backward to have a keyless car and then have to carry a key for the steering wheel
  6. I went out for my first real outing in my Caterham this week covering about 300 miles over three days and it highlighted a couple of problems. The main niggle is it wouldn't start in the morning. It's fitted with an Odyssey Extreme PC 680 battery and although it seemed to have plenty of power to turn over the starter it wouldn't fire. As soon as I attached my Noco booster it started straight away so I suspect there is no problem with plugs or leads etc = I'm a bit of a mechanical numpty but could it be that the battery has enough power to turn the starter but not quite enough to spark? I have no ideas how old the battery is but a mate has a proper battery tester so I will check that first. My question really is this. Were these batteries fitted as standard to the original K series Superlight R's? I know they are a racing battery but I'm wondering if they are suitable for everyday use. Is there anything better out there without adding a lot of weight?
  7. Does anybody else use these? I ordered a pair via amazon marketplace last month. Not cheap at £169 a pair but they are well designed and made, or so I thought. I used them for the first time yesterday and when I went out to the car this morning I discovered the left hand one has started to come apart (pics attached)The rear bracket that slides over the body is attached to the main bracket with a similar sized spacer. Although the spacer appears to be bolted to the main bracket the actual bracket is only glued on. Not very good to fall apart after a day! I have written an email to Woog in Italy although I'm not sure I shouldn't just communicate via Amazon. In the event I have no luck I'm wondering whether they are repairable. I don't know what they are made of(some sort of carbon maybe). Would a good clean up and Araldite work?
  8. Has anybody fitted a locking box into their boot. Looking for something I can secure the steering wheel and battery master key and other odds and sods in. Would appreciate recommendations
  9. First day of my first real blat around mid Wales today after newly acquiring my car a couple of months ago and the front number plate fell off! DIscovered it was only stuck on with double sided tape but hey ho, it is what it is. I've not really had a close look at it yet but a cursory examination suggests there is not a lot of places to screw it on securely. What is the preferred method? Alternatively can I get away with a number plate sticker on the nose cone of a 1999 car?
  10. thanks for all your help guys. I've finally got it back on. Think I just went into panic mode and didn't think it through. Cleaned my balls and slowly rotated the wheel on the spine until it slotted itself back on like butter. First lesson learnt to not be a complete plank and take my time!!
  11. I will give my balls a good scrub. Sorry to ask what is probably an obvious question but how do I align the double width spline? (sorry, I am totally new to Caterham ownership)
  12. I've just taken my new Superlight out for a bit of a shakedown prior to its first real blat around mid Wales on Tuesday. Driving home with it from its storage unit to home I noticed a bit of play in the wheel - it would move forward and back on the steering column by about 1 cm. When I got home I took the steering wheel off and now it will not go on for love nor money. On close inspection I can see part of the ring on what I assume is the locking mechanism (sorry, I'm strictly non technical) is missing? Could this be the problem and what would the fix be? Is there anywhere (hopefully Midlands based) that could effect a repair or sell me a replacement wheel tomorrow (Monday) before my trip on Tuesday!! Pic below with missing piece circled
  13. I've looked at some of the videos Garmin post about this and I have to say it's an impressive piece of kit. Any track can be added to its database simply by driving around a circuit with a camera connected. Once it has filmed an entire lap it then sprinkles magic fairy dust on the file and can give you audible and visual instructions on how to improve your lap. At nearly £900 it's certainly not cheap but if you factor in what it would cost for tuition at every circuit you visited it begins to look like a good investment. I'm still doubtful it would be allowed on track days as it has a timing function but if they were allowed I think It would go to the top of the list in my letter to Santa.
  14. Just had a look at the Classic Carbon website and noticed a message on their shop page saying their retail order book is closed and products are only available through Classics & Sevens
  15. Anybody know anything at this? https://buy.garmin.com/en-GB/GB/p/690726?utm_source=EMEA&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=en-GB%20Delivery,%20EMEA,%20Garmin%20Catalyst%20Announcement,%2013808 no doubt useful but a bit of an expensive toy for casual use as I assume it wouldn't be allowed at track days?
  16. I'll confess I didn't ask so if you can it's my loss. Would certainly make it a real bargain if it bought it down to £234. I assumed they wouldn't because it's the norm with most retailers that you can't combine discounts
  17. Didn't try that Geoff, as it is a sale offer I'm sure it would come under the usual "cannot be used in conjunction with any other offer " clause.
  18. The magnificent Halfords Advanced 200 piece socket and spanner set is currently on offer, down from £325 to £260. It really is an impressive piece of kit for the money. Just don't open the case upside down like I did
  19. Does anybody have any photos of these installed?
  20. Looking for advice on the best type of fire extinguisher to fit in a 1999 Superlight R. Is it worth spending the money on the official Caterham product or are there any alternative after market products worth considering? having experienced two car fires (Audi and Saab, not Caterham thankfully) I always carry fire extinguishers in my cars these days and the Caterham doesn't currently have one.
  21. Any idea where I can get one for a K series engine? Caterham Parts don't seem to have them. Or should I just use a piece of bamboo like others?

    Anglesey

When is the Anglesey event? I am new to the club and just looking to start doing track days but I am also an event caterer. Looks like it might be a useful service if I towed my wood fired pizza oven to somewhere close by
  23. Thanks for all the comments guys. What you are suggesting makes sense. I still think The Arai helmet is a good option for the extra visibility but I agree, it needs to be with the visor. I've ordered myself a pair of prescription Oakleys with straight arms, rather than the hockey stick style arms on most glasses as these will be far easier to take on and off with helmet in position.
  24. Probably a daft question but I'm looking to get a helmet for track days and always found them difficult when karting because I wear glasses. Is the Arai GP-5W regarded as 'full-face' or do I have to have a full visor?https://www.demon-tweeks.com/uk/arai-gp-5w-helmet-240773/ If this isn't allowed what helmets have other spectacle wearers found to be the best?
