  1. It's on the rear axle Jonathan.  It seems to be "Where the speedo needle moves erratically, especially at high speeds, and sometime sits resolutely on zero for minutes at a time" so I've checked the light emissions as suggested and it seems to be pulsing for all the teeth so it looks like the air gap is correct?  Or should I check that it is 1mm?

  2. The speedo on my 2014 Supersport R 210 has started playing up suddenly.  Jumps around and then stops working completely; also the mileage has stopped recording.  But the LCD display is showing steady.  Anyone point me in the right direction?

    Thanks. Jeff

  3. I have the above for sale from a 2016 420R with 5k mls on the clock. It failed the wheel turning test so I assume needs refurbishing but was not making any undue noises. I have replaced it with a Quaife more suited to my road only usage. £300 or sensible offer.

  4. Hi Guys

I have a Titan LSD from my 2016 420R for sale with 5000 mls on it. It failed the wheel turning test and the oil was good and black so I reckon it's knackered. I've replaced it with a Quaife which I think is more suitable for my requirements but would be interested in opinions on its sale value as a reconditionable unit.

  6. In fact I'm wondering if since the seepage is only coming from one corner and definitely at the front where the offside corner timing cover bolt is; could I get away with just loosening the front four timing cover bolts and squirting some sealant along the front edge and retightening? Thus avoiding having to drop the whole sump!

  7. Anyway gentlemen. I'm definitely minded to go for a Quaife after reading all your illuminating (and sometimes acrimonious!) comments. I shall probably use their BMW stockist Birds to do the work. But would be interested if anyone has any observations regarding a better choice of installer?

  8. Hi Chris

It's a 2014. Since turning the wheel on one side doesn't impart any movement to the other side at all there isn't presumably any point in a pre-load?  Or am I missing something (which is quite possible)?  Your blog is awesome btw!

  9. I have a Supersport R 210 with 5000 miles on the clock which is fitted with a Titan LSD. I am no expert on the performance of LSDs; however I have drained the oil and it is a filthy black liquid!  Additionally I have carried out the following check,  Wheel rotation check. With the rear of the car raised rotate one wheel. The opposite wheel should turn in the same direction. Non rotation or rotation in the opposite direction of the opposite wheel indicates possible internal failure of the LS unit.  One wheel turned in the wrong direction and one did not rotate at all!

The dealer has indicated he is prepared to refurbish the unit under warranty but only if the strip down confirms "failure".  Otherwise I would be liable for costs.

I should be grateful for anyone confirming my opinion that the bloody thing is knackered?  And that this could reasonably be considered a failure since I have only done a couple of hundred miles since purchase?

Additionally I am considering replacing the Titan with a Quaife.  How would the labour time for that compare with refurbishing the Titan?

Look forward to replies as ever.

    Jeff
