  1. My car had a rather robust scatter shield installed either when it was built or shortly thereafter. I'm strongly considering removing it at the moment as it serves no purpose on a street car. Only the tops of the tabs are welded so it should be an easy job to remove it and then clean and paint the frame tubes. Is there some reason to not get rid of this thing? Is there something I'm missing? I guess one could argue that it's part of the car's history but I'm not sure that holds much weight with me.
  2. The engine has about 3000 miles on it (4800 km). I’m located in the North Eastern United States.
  3. After 3 solid years of refurbishment I'm starting to blat about in my '87 BDR engined Caterham. The car is running very well and I couldn't be more pleased given the work it's taken to get the car back into shape. I'm currently running Castrol GTX 20-50 in the car and all seems well, oil pressure is nominal and the motor hasn't blown up yet. However, BDRs are not common where I live and finding good information about them is difficult for me. Does the Castrol 20-50 seem like the right way to go? The car is road only (no track days) and is equipped with a wet sump. I know questions about engine oil are apt to bring out a diversity of opinions and I apologize in advance but I really am curious as my usual sources of information are of little use in this particular case.
  4. I'm trying to figure out the size of the screws that fix the windscreen to the stanchion on my '87 Caterham. The major diameter measures 4.57mm or .18" and the thread pitch isn't quite .8mm, 32 TPI UNF or 32 TPI Whitworth. I'm thinking they're probably 2BA, can someone confirm this suspicion?
