  1. Doesn't look like any Lotus chassis number that I know of.

Some years ago I went to look at a 'Lotus 7' in Dorset that had a Triumph 6 cylinder engine. That wasn't a Lotus and we had to tell the owner.

  2. Thought I had a limiter on my 1700 Supersprint xflow, I was later told that I hadn't and what I had been experiencing was likely to have been valve-float. So unless you've changed valve springs you probably have the same limiter as I did.
  3. This sounds normal to me, don't forget that in a de-dion car the diff casing is bolted to the chassis and it's very close to your left hip whereas in a live-axled car it isn't, hence you are less likely to notice any backlash on a live-axled car.

Have chat with the people at your local meet, go out in their cars, take someone out in yours, you'll soon discover whether yours is unusual.

  4. If it starts with 5LC it's not a DeDion
Are you sure about that? Could it not be 5LC/nnnn/17RD indicating 5-Speed, Long Cockpit, engine number, 1700 Supersprint, Right Hand Drive, de Dion.
