  1. Thanks - yes - top ball joints. Will "any old" gloss black metal paint do?
  2. First proper blat of the year yesterday morning, through largely empty country roads in east sussex, kent and surrey, so wonderful it brought a tear to my eye, I have to admit.... Anyway, when looking over the car after the winter, I've noticed a bit of lost paint and corrosion on the front suspension - see pictures. I don't think the wheels are about to drop off or anything, but this looks like something I could tidy up by myself easily without any dismantling. You can also see in the background of the pics that the steering linkages are not shiny. They've always been like that (it's a 14 year old car) and I've not been worrying too much about them. So my question - what would you do?
  3. Guilty as charged! Went from a lovely autumn walk in the woods at High Chart, which when added to a blast in the Seven to get there and back makes for a fine Sunday morning.
  4. I have a cheap lithium 8000mah one for the Seven - and it didn't work when I needed it. My battery was low a few weeks back and had enough juice to turn the engine but not enough to start it. I happen to know this is standard behaviour on my car - because it did that when I test drove it at CC after it had been sitting for a couple of weeks. I suspect it's the old "ECU struggling with lack of voltage on cranking" chestnut discussed here extensively. Connected the jump starter, V across battery measured >13.5, still didn't start. Couple of hours on the CTEK conditioner, started fine. Next time the battery goes low, I'll repeat the experiment.
  5. Heading towards Croydon around 1pm today. Hi from yellow SV heading in opposite direction!
  6. Caterham have just put "motorsport oil 5W50" in my VVC during a routine service. According to caterhamparts it's fully synth. The car's still under warranty so I (perhaps bravely!) assume they know what they're doing.... Sounds good - noticeably better than the old oil, which I think was the same type. It's always chattered a bit but I thought TADTS.
  7. My yellow has altogether more straightforward origins - it happened to be the colour of the car available at the right spec. Happily it's SWMBO's favourite colour, and I have to admit I like it too. The VVC has great sounds and revs. Hope its similar vintage to an 88k car is a good omen! Mine has obviously been a garage queen at "just" 25k. It has done few miles since 2010, then it suddenly jumped 5k in the last 3 months. I wonder how that happened?
  8. Lucky you! Our blat was just 28 miles, bringing the Seven back home after it had been serviced at CC. But we chose a maximum smiles-per-mile route! As for any more big blats - maybe - if I can buy some more miles from my insurer!
  9. Hi from yellow SV! Lovely day for it.
  10. I'm only a couple of miles away in croydon town centre and I drive the sanderstead hill route in and out nearly every time - haven't found a better one as of course it leads directly to westerham and then endless b-road joy heading south into Kent and Sussex.
  11. You turned south towards Horsham, we continued west. Sun 28th approx 6am. 2up behind you in yellow SV.
  12. That was us - first trip out in our Seven, on the way back from Hythe. After that Beachy Head and the Weald. Awesome.
  13. Sunday 13th around 6pm, saw you twice and waved, me opposite direction each time in yellow K-series SV. Also saw car with same colours (perhaps even same car?) parked up in Cowden on Saturday. Was able to read the decal on that one - a 620S.
