Hi Ed, arms are long.

Hi Frosty, Woodthorpe - approx 15 mins J26.
Keith

Thanks Neil - I ordered the same ones this morning. Thanks again for your help - I think you twigged my problem first.

Hi, guys, thanks for input - especially Roger - this sounds like it !!
Will try and find/order some 50f9 jets now. The pump jets are 35.

Thanks Tazio, the feeling of achievement when you've sorted something out for yourself is immense, instead of chucking money at it. You ought to try it sometime.
Been for a second blat and Neil was right - mixture too weak (plugs beige). Tweaked to 6,7,6.5,7 half turns - back to 30 thou plugs.
Not perfect but immeasurably better. I don't think there is a perfect running 135 bhp Caterham.

Thought I'd sorted it. 25thou Spark plug gap. Got all the plugs the same nice colour. Just been for a blat and it's still there. Any adjustment of the idle mixture screw (which is all I have to play with) doesn't appear to make that much difference.
I'm currently on 4,5,5,5 half turns out from stop. Is this about right ?
Some say intermittent spitting through carb and exhaust point to the car running too weak. (Spits about every 30 secs on run randomly).
Should I try maybe 6 or 7 half turns out from stop ? What is the norm/average ?
There aren't garages within miles of me (Nottingham) to tune the carbs for me.
If I had hair - I would tear it out.

Thanks Neil.
I think the engine is all original. It is a 1990 Prisoner car.
The Carbs are 40's. The idle jets you speak of are F845 !?
Just as an aside - the car was tuned by Kenrick cars in Wales and I found the plug gaps to be 30 thou - I replaced with same gap. Is this too much ? Visiting various threads it seems that a smaller gap may help ?

OK - manifold not blowing - although it does look crusty ! I can't see or feel anything.
Forgot to add - went for a run this morning - the car does 'backfire/cough' through the exhaust at regular intervals - not under stress. Also, same through the carbs !!
Surely this must ring a bell with somebody ?

I think you may have something here - I will investigate !

Can anybody help ?
I have just bought a 1990 X/F factory Supersprint (135 bhp). I really like the car but am struggling to fine tune it.
It splutters from initial pickup until it clears it's throat @2000 rpm - then it runs a dream.
I guess it has 'hottish' cam but I don't really want to drive it like I stole it all the time !!
Have tried lots settings with the idle mixture screws ... to no avail.
It has Luminition electronic ignition and I have put in a new set of plugs.
Thanks

Wanted - Half Hood for S3 Supersprint - must be long cockpit. Non FIA rollbar 1990 car. 90cm screen to rollbar.

Soft Bits mohair half hood. For a series 3 and the X Plus which allows the half hood to become a full hood - all in one case.
Bought this in error. It is for S3 but I have a long cockpit Supersprint and this is for a normal cockpit, ie 90cm form rollbar to screen top.
£165 plus postage. Or pickup Notts. SOLD

Hi, could I have the tunnel bag please ?
Thanks

Thanks for your wisdoms. I think I'll plan a pincer movement on this.
1) I will get a cheap relay/buzzer (£1.82) off ebay and replace the Caterham indicator relay unit.
If this fails ...
2) I will try Bricol's method and plumb in a 2 wire buzzer on the indicator switch (connect to the middle spade and to earth).
As belt and braces I might also change the indicator switch for a green illuminated jobby !
I'll let you know when my stuff arrives on the slow boat !

Hi, I have a 1990 Supersprint and want to introduce an indicator buzzer. I have trawled the website but can't find an exact answer.
Could I simply change the existing Flasher relay for a Flasher/buzzer relay ?
If so, how many pins and who stocks them ?
Thanks - Keith

Mint Hawk 289 for sale.
This is defintely not the place to advertise this but here goes, long story short ... bucket list was a Prisoner 7 first or a Hawk 289 second.
When a Prisoner 7 finally came up (No. 18) I missed out due to someone putting on a deposit within minutes ! Then a Hawk came along which I bought.
Then, three weeks later the same Prisoner 7 was available again - which I then bought.
I have two absolutely brilliant cars but one has to go and I have always been a Caterham man (I have owned 6 !).Hawk 289, super authentic looking Rover Vitesse/MGB Hawk 289 slabside in Aston Martin DBR9 racing green.
RV8 3.5 engine, Edlebrock inlet, Holley carb and rebuilt LT77 gearbox.
No hood but brand new Hawk tonneau. Built and correctly registered as a 'Hawk' in 2011 in conjunction with Talon.
All the nice bits then retrofitted post IVA, then Immaculate recent paint.
Hardly used but runs very nicely, 1430 miles, MOT July.
I felt very fortunate to have found this car after a long search. Genuine reason(s) for sale.
Terrific looking car in a gorgeous colour. £35KKeith Ash

Caterham 7 Ford based 1700 Supersprint.
Comes with private plate (K1 JEC) valued at between £1500 and £2500.
Completed in 1992 from a complete factory kit. I have all the original Caterham receipts, the build manual and a series of photos (a wall plaque), detailing the build.
In addition to this the car has padded armrest/centre console, silicon and braided hoses, full wet weather gear with hood with transport case, HPC wheels with good tyres, chrome headlights, 4 point harnesses (normal seat belts are available if required and are easy to fit), 4 branch Racing stainless exhaust . Caterham toolkit, a Clayton heater - not fitted, rear disc brakes, braided brake lines, adjustable seats and it has only done just 9K miles, it was garage built and owned for many years and just sat in their showroom with annual exercise to the MOT station. The fuel pipe flexible's, fuel pump, water hoses, brake master cylinder , battery, front brake calipers and brake pads (EBC) have been renewed, adjusted the wheel bearings and checked the complete chassis over it is in great condition. Running very nicely.
Reluctant sale. Only 65 miles in the last year - I think I need a car with a door now.0115 9521622 (Notts)
