  1. Taken from my 1.8 2004 X power 140bhp engine as I have now changed to emerald

the immobiliser was switched off and it was set with “pops and bangs”

Seemed to make a difference to the feel of the car and was great on the over run

  2. Anthony, good luck, I was going to replace all mine like for like, and then all the bolts for no other reason than they would be shiny!!

Rob at Ratrace replaced every jubilee clip when I upgraded the engine last month so that saved me joining you in the rabbit hole.

A list of bolts and jubilee clips would be handy in the technical section ( and a help group for Upgraditis)

  3. Having just completed a 700 mile blat from Beaconsfield to St Davids then Snowdonia and home at the weekend, i can confirm that the 6 speed gearbox is superb through the twisty bits, i would have liked a 7th gear for the dual carriageways though!

    My car (in 6th) was showing 2000rpm = 40mph 3000rpm = 60mph 4000rpm = 80mph

The RPM is accurate and was recalibrated by Dave Walker @ Emerald a couple of weeks ago, though im not sure about the speedo as i think it exagerates (having checked against a speed app on my phone)

My question is, any suggestions on which ratio diff i have based on the above?

  4. I found the process relatively simple, remove the old exhaust and offer up the new primaries, one of them will pass through the existing hole. then set out the location of the other primaries relative to this and cut to a tight hole, offering up the next primary as the hole increases.

once all fit through the tight hole, remove them all, draw the shape of the finished hole you like (allowing some clearance for engine movement) and "tidy up" the hole with a flapper wheel fitted to an electric drill.

I  used jar lids as a template for marking  the radius sections of the holes, and have a look at images of other cars to understand the shape required.

It only took a few hours.

  5. Brett, thanks for the info, so, S3 = 430mm SV = 500mm that would explain the fact that my carbon cills fitted by the previous owner have always looked too small (they are obviously S3).

If SV versions were to be manufactured, i would place an order, but for the moment count me out

    thank you
