Don Cook
Went out for a blat this morning and noticed that the clutch pedal goes down about half way before any pressure was detected it then works fine. This was not the case yesterday when pressure was felt more or less immediately. Car is a 2.0 VX with Caterham dry sump and hydraulic clutch. I can’t see any adjustment mechanism that could have slipped and fluid level is normal. Any ideas ? Cheers Don.
andy oliver
Sounds like the seal in (probably)the master cylinder may be leaking. They are easily replaced. You might try bleeding it first in case some air has got in.
Don Cook
Thank Andy, I'll have a look at that, but there's no sign of any fluid on the garage floor or anywhere around the car.
JP
Is the clutch fluid black?
Don Cook
Hello JP, The clutch fluid level is fine. I did bleed it again as suggested by Andy and that has cured it. Point is how did the air get in there to start with. One day it was fine the next there was this dead band but no loss significant loss of fluid or possibility of air ingress. Queer.
