Will it Unscrew? (Damper rod on old style Bilstein’s)

Chaps,

I have some adjustable spring seats to fit to my old Bilstein Dampers.

The dampers are the old type with circlip grooves every inch.

The problem is that the main bolt through the lower wish bone has rusted-up probably necessitating cutting out.

 

With the new Bilsteins there is a nut at the end of the damper rod where the bump stop sits.

Mine doesn’t have that nut but my question is:-

 

Is the end of the rod still threaded & will it unscrew?

Yes, my old dampers were from about 1992 and they un-screwed but the rod needed clamping very tightly in a vice to remove the top fitting.

Yeah, I made some special jaws to grab the shaft. If youd like to borrow them drop me a mail. I´m in silverstone so I could mail them quite quickly if you like. Also try heating the end gently with a blowtorch to soften any thread lock that might be in their...
