Thin Red Wire on the Ignition Whats it For

Can some one tell me what the thin red wire attached to the terminal marked R or PR on the ingintion does, it would appear to go up to the change up light.

 

I've fitted the Aircraft style switch that works fine but I've got a wire left over

I've just looked over the circuit diagrams for both the standard and stack dash cars and there is no sign of it - I guess if the change up light doesn't work you may well have your answer
