correct running temprature

Std gauges & senders are notoriously unreliable/inaccurate. Could be a variety of things causing the symptom you describe. Temp transducer/wiring/gauge or stuck thermostat. Have a search through the archives. There's loads of stuff in there covering this. No need to worry as more than likely it's something minor *cool*

Do a search of the archives for fitting tips - as I recall it's important not to overtighten the sender....

It probably will take more than 5 minutes to do if you've not done it before but it really is a quick job - pull off the wire, unscrew the old sender, screw in new sender (as quickly as possible to avoid losing too much coolant) and slip wire back on

Well, personally I'd wrap the thread on the sender with a layer or two of PTFE tape (available for pence from B&Q/anywhere - make sure it's wrapped against the thread so that it doesn't unravel). This helps seal it - and should help you resist the temptation to overtighten it...

It is a tapered thread - and it's not designed to screw 'fully in' - just tighten it until it bites, fire up the engine and tweak it slightly if it weeps...
