hugh
does anybody know the ratios for a XR4 type 9 5speed gearbox, the reason I ask is I am in the process of fitting a 1600 all steel (screamer) crossflow to replace my deceased rally spec 1650 crosflow, and I know the ratio,s in the gearbox need to be changed (closed up) ,is it possible to change the diff from the present 3.67 (ital/marina axle) to a 4.1 and nearly achieve the desired result, My budget won,t rise to replacing both the diff and gearbox. I would like to check the standard ratio,s against the ratio,s listed for a clubman gearbox, If the ratio,s are similar i,ll take the change of diff route. Luke Beaumont
Search on t'web for "Gearcalc". It's a useful windows app for plotting gear ratios against engine & road speed. Has quite a few gearbox ratio sets programmed in, including the XR4 type 9.
