phatcat
(Academy car - new build). Just read the hood fitting instructions, and can't make sense of them (at all). The assembly guide suggests that there are pre-drilled holes in the boot chassis rail to screw the hoodstraps into, but I can't find any. Also, I can't work out which part of the strap I am supposed to screw to the rail. I'm totally lost on this one. Does anyone have any pics showing hoodsticks/straps correctly fitted to a (recent) car? Has the design changed? Thanks.
Normans_Ghost
Phatcat, you don't need a hood, it's extra weight and never gets used. The 2 straps screw into the top rail, the one the edge of the boot cover goes over. They screw in on the inside edge. I haven't a photo because I haven't a hood. Matthew Willoughby
Phatcat, if you want I'll come and take a look for you. I had a 7 with a cage and hood that I often had up so know how it should look. I also lived in Middlewich at the time but am now in Northwich. Let me know if you want a hand I've not got any photos I'm afraid and I had to sell the car so can't go out and take any ☹️
phatcat
Thanks for the offer Matt, I've had a rethink though. I think I'll just get Caterham to do it when I drop it off at the PBC in a couple of days. I'm sure it'll only take them a couple of minutes (or anyone else that knows how it's supposed to look!), and I think my time is better spent getting the sidescreens bolted on and the rest of the SVA stuff finished. Matthew Willoughby
Ok. Good luck with the SVA.
Grubbster
You need the hood on to do the sidescreens - otherwise you'll have nothing to line them up with Roadsport build photo's here Le Mans 2004 photo's here
Grubbster
I can take a picture of mine in the morning - let me know. On mine, the holes were not already drilled in the rail (IIRC) but I can measure where they are and let you know if that is any help? Frying Pan
Although I didn't ask them to (or know it was an option), Caterham pre fitted the hood and doors to mine. IIRC, the bill was about £60. Guy See some pictures of the build here. 4000 miles completed!
