italjob
Measured the weight of some components while I am building up my Fireblade using a bathroom scale. Hope you find these interesting  * Live axle with disc brake conversion - 114.0lb * Reverse - 15.0lb * Leda front damper - 5.5lb * Leda rear damper - 7.0lb * Front solid brake disc - 6.0lb * Front caliper - 8.0lb * Wiper motor - 5.0lb * Fixed seat rails (pair) - 2.0lb * Tillet seat - 9.0lb * Front wheel fender (CF) - 1.0lb * Rear wheel fender - 4.0lb * Nose cone - 6.0lb
Andrew Walker
Very interesting. Are you using the Alcon 2 pot calipers? and are you planning to use the magnesium R500 wheels?
italjob
I am using the four-pot one instead. I know it is an overkill for a car of this weight and I prefer the two-pot. According to JW, he needs to get enough interest for the two-pot before a batch is made. For the wheels, I am using the stock one (minilite lookalike). Those R500 rims are nice but $$$. Morls
A wiper motor 🤔 In California 🤔  Surely the weather there means you can run with just an arero screen and save more weight, or is it horrid type approval / legal stuff that means it must stay? Mark  Look it's Mavis here and Jubilee 7 here
xflow7
114 lb for the (presume Ital) live axle? Never would have guessed it to be that heavy from what I remember of installing it in my car. Does the disc brake conversion add a bunch of weight? Thanks for the post. Very interesting, indeed. Dave
Ferrino
Just over 50 Kg for the Ital sounds about right from what I've heard from others. A healthy saving compared to the De Dion 😬 Edited by - Ferrino on 8 Sep 2004 18:09:
italjob
Actually I am taking out the wiper motor and going aero screen. I haven't weighted the screen yet but it is not that heavy.
italjob
For the disc brake conversion, the discs is just a regular solid disc but the alloy hubs are pretty light. The caliper is heavy though (should be the same one as dedion). I guess when they all added up it will be slight lighter than a drum setup. STEVE GILBERT
Get big holes machined in the rear discs like the ones on the kitcarworkshop website. Regarding 4 pot Alcons I have them on my Blade and they work well and I wouldn't say they are overkill. You rarely use the buggers anyway 😬 Steve See My Caterham Fireblade Here.
