Caterham 7 VX Classic

Matthew Willoughby

Recommended Posts

I am looking for a VX Classic for road use and the occassional track day.

The car must have a painted body, have cycle wings, an FIA bar (or cage), weather equipment and be in sound mechanical condition with tidy bodywork.

I would prefer a car that hasn't raced too much (ex academy is no problem) although I would consider a graduates racer but would have to take into account any costs involved in making it road friendly.

My budget is £8,500.

Have you got what I'm looking for?

Cash waiting for the right car 😬

If you can stretch the budget a bit, not sure if my ex-graduate car would suit. It's not been raced since a rebuild & respray, so the bodywork is mint. I've just done trackdays this year. It's got all the road bits (hood, tonneau, sidescreens), plus spare set of wheels & new tyres, removable side impact bar etc. I don't think there's any safety "extra" that I don't have.

As with most racers, it's been very well looked after (oil change every 2-3 trackdays/races, diff overfilled with oil, so I've had no rear axle problems). Colour is McLaren orange with black wings and black rollcage/side impact bar. Looks the business.

I would put it up for sale at £9,500 ono. Couldn't come down to £8,500, but if you can stretch, maybe we can do a deal. Let me know if you're interested. It'll be available after a trackday I have booked on 22 November.

Karsten if you are reading this, I had trouble sending you a reply to your email. If you post a reply here, I will try to e-mail you from Blatchat. Here are more details of my car:

Vauxhall 1600 engine (8v) - 100bhp

Built in 2000 by Caterham Midlands

Full roll cage

Graduates specification

Minilight alloy wheels with Avon CR322s fitted - plenty of life left in the

tyres

Spare set of steel wheels with Yoko AO21s, virtually no tyre usage

Orange body and nosecone, black wings and rollcage

Full weather gear (hood, tonneau, and sidescreens)

Spare front anti-roll bar.

Removeable side impact bar.

Detachable steering wheel

Plumbed in fire extinguisher

Safety cut-out switch

Drivers side honeycomb protection

Fuel tank honeycomb protection

Rebuilt January 2003, so bodywork is near perfect. One crack on rear wing

(difficult to see), and some scratches on one front wing.

Well looked after (oil changes every two or three trackdays)

About 7,500 miles on the clock.

I am about 180 miles from Dover (near Basingstoke - you will find

Basingstoke on junction 6 of the M3 motorway).

I am doing a trackday in the car on November 22nd, so I would not be able to

sell it before then, but you are welcome to see the car at any time.

I work some distance from my home, so it would not be possible for me to

show you the car on Thursday during the day, but I could be home from

8:00pm. I guess this would not be convenient for you, but if you are in the UK another time, then please feel free to email me.

Regards

Martin

Karsten - I've just sent a mail via Blatchat, but it won't allow me to send pictures. I'll have another go this evening from my home PC.

Tim (I assume) - I didn't check my home mails last night, so will reply this evening.

Thanks for the interest!

I've got just the car for you!

An ex-graduate race car, tax, tested, painted in dark metallic blue with black wings.

Can be used on the road or track - choice is yours.

We bought his car to use with our sponsors on trackdays - we've only done 2! But the car is quick & safe.

Sadly, budgets have been tightened for 2004, so they're not backing our racing activites next season, so we're selling the car to fund it ourselves, unless someone else can be found.

I'm in Tokyo until the 17th but you can call Graham Hill on 020 7796 5707 for details.

We're based SW London/ Surrey.
