Ron_F
The build of my SV140 with a standard 5-speed box has been progressing well, but now I have hit a problem. The gearlever appears to be a long way forward and very stiff. In fact, it is impossible to select reverse and the other gears are very difficult to engage. I it possible to fit the selector incorrectly? The gearbox tail housing has three bolts that seem to determine the position of the selector. However the gear lever does not seem to be operating correctly. Any suggestions or advice would be gratefully received.
Paul McKenzie
Sounds like the box wasn't in neutral when you fitted the lever, and the selector is not aligned. Just remove the three bolts and fiddle about 'til the lever and selector line up properly without the bolts in - the lever may need to be in whatever gear position the selector is in, when you get it right, put the bolts back in Paul
Ron_F
Paul, Thanks for the quick response. I didn't know it was possible to get the lever in the wrong place. The build guide makes no mention of aligning the lever and it only seemed to go in one way. Looks like the tunnel top will have to come off cheers
Ron_F
Paul, You were quite right. The lever and selector forks had been turned around by 180 deg in the housing before fitting. It was obvious once I got it back off. thanks again
